Blasphemy x 2!:
I have an Endura 3 that I really like, but would like to have the jimped thumb ramp and larger hole that are features of the Pac Salt.
I prefer VG-10 for use away from the sea.
There were hollow saber ground Delica IIIs with FRN. I have one, in ATS-55 steel. My other Delica III has a flat sabre grind, and VG-10.
I prefer them to the lined, "screwy" Delica 4.
I own a very nice Omega Seamaster 225450 auto, but I generally wear an atomic solar Casio G-Shock GW-M5600. The G-Shock has certain advantages over the Seamaster:
It shows the correct time.
Firefighters in my British brigade have been banned from carrying personally owned knives, due to "health and safety" concerns.
The firefighters have had to remove the Enduras, Delica, Rescues,...
After using the flats of the standard white Sharpmaker stones, I finish off the edge by stropping it in the palm of my hand.
It works well - a strop with feeling!
Persons trapped or not, we always take a hoseline.
I have my own kids that I would like to get home to.
"Over here" every team entering will take at least a 19mm hosereel, unless there is a absolute certainty that they will not need one for their protection. Therefore, primary search is performed with...
I have the utmost respect for all the World's firefighters, but I have to question the tactics employed in the vid.
Climb into a raging fire with no water? Expect to get burned.
A plain edge will breeze through webbing, but when you need to cut fibrous man-made rope (like polypropelene) in a hurry, a serrated knife is a safer option.
Many thanks Sal,
I now have a Meadowlark Rescue that I bought to examine before recommending them to my Brigade. I have passed it around the operational watches (52 firefighters) and all have...
I have approached the Equipment Procurement Group with the aim of procuring a personal issue knife.
They came back to me and asked for supporting documentation from the operational watch commanders,...
The Pacific is one of my favourite Spydies.
I know that it wouldn't be a "Salt" any more, but I would love one in VG-10.
The 3 series Endura is another of my favourites. I like its VG-10, but...
Keep what hair you still have short. When it's cold, wear a hat.
I received my plain edged Aqua Salt today. Superb knife and sheath.
Now I might have to buy one to use as my boat knife at work..:)
I have to disagree too, Mr Glesser. The Aqua Salt is one of the most handsome Spyderco designs I have seen.
I have ordered one as my dive/boat knife.
Your designs are refreshing. Great work!
A rattly stop pin sleeve is not a fault or a problem. The sleeve is free to rotate to spread the wear over the whole circumference and the rattle should stop of its own accord in time.
If it bothers...
The humble Opinel makes a great beater and, with its thin blade, it is easy to get back to razor sharp.
I don't feel that I need to return the knife. I just dry it after washing.
My VG-10 folders have remained completely rust free, but my Yang kitchen knife rusts like crazy.
If I wash it in the sink and put it to one side without drying it, brown rust spots develop in just a...
I have two FRN Delica 3s, one in ATS-55 and one in VG-10.
The ATS-55 knife is hollow ground, the VG-10 is saber.
I haven't noticed any difference in cutting efficiency.
I used 60 grit to start with - very aggressive and it shifted steel fast. I then progressed to 120 grit, then to the brown Sharpmaker stones.
All of this I did at the 30 degree setting. I then...
My very first Spyderco, an Aus-8 Rescue, had its teeth quite badly damaged at a truck fire so, as I now favour a plain edge, I decided to convert it using my (slightly modified :o ) Sharpmaker:
It would be nice if Spyderco fans could extend the same courtesy on the other forums that they frequent.
When I have raised the issue on a certain British knife forum I have been told words to the...
