All of my Manix have been that freely swinging when the ball bearing is not in contact.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with mine, but I wouldn't really notice because I use a thumb & index finger technique.
I would think your estimation is very sensible. I personally don't plan to put one on mine, but I can see it working.

Jack, it almost appears to be on your lens. The right side (your hand) is not blurry at all, but from the right edge of the stone all the way to the left, it does appear blurred.

I use a similar app on my phone Jack. It's called Keeper. As long as the password to get into it is strong enough, it should be fairly secure.
I do as well. I have been wanting them since I saw another set of custom scales on this thread from years ago.
That was the best I could do as far as lighting goes with my smartphone (direct sunlight). The shaded pics were a bit misleading
Even narrowing it down that much leaves variables like sharpening tool used and sharpener (human) proficiency.
