From what I remember of the research I did (Searching here and Bladeforums) when I first got an ATS-55 Dyad, it was a collaboration between Hitatchi and Spyderco to make a cheaper variant of ATS-34...

I love the original Dyad. The recent sprint, however, just doesn't seem as good quality and fit&finish wise, to go along with the unnecessary extra thickness and weight (For example, look at the...

The only stripped screw I've had on a Spyderco came that way out of the box. But it's on the clip for a Paramilitary, so it's not like there's any need to unscrew it anyways.

Cool. The handle doesn't work for me, but it is a pretty knife. One of these days I need to track down one of the larger versions.

I don't take knives apart, so pins are fine by me. If anything, I prefer them to screws because of the smoother aesthetics. No torx/phillips/etc. head to interrupt the lines of the knife.

The Lum is one of my favorite knife designs of all time, but I never carried the almite version because I was afraid of scratching it up. The nishijin one doesn't have that problem. It's a great,...

I wouldn't call another black handled knife an improvement. At least it's not basic peel ply black G-10. I picked up the current Sage 3 because of the blue handle. I like blue.

BD-1 is a US version of GIN-1, which was once upon a time the standard steel for Japanese-made Spydercos, before being replaced by ATS-34, ATS-55, and finally VG-10. Why would they go backwards for...

The Barong, though the Khukri and Persian aren't far behind. The latter really surprised me how much I liked it when I picked one up, because I'm not normally a fan of trailing point style blades.

Necessary? Not for me. For most purposes, anything similar to or better than the steel that Victorinox uses is more than adequate for me. But it's fun and a way to justify more expensive knives.

I'm surprised nobody's metioned the byrd Tern yet as an alternative for people who need an Urban fix. It has very similar dimensions, and, personally, a more comfortable handle.
