It's a plug in that allows the forum to work with an app on phone, so it can be read easily on the smaller screens.

Problem is that the admins have to add stuff on the back-end and there are serious security risks. I wanted to have the folks over at the USN use it and then I read about all the security problems and stuff people have to go through. I wouldn't put that software on any forum if it were up to me.

Security is often inconvenient, but I'll take it over the other option.

I've tried to use it on other forums but I must just be missing the benefits, I couldn't see any difference.

According to the research I've done, the above is just not true. The problem most forums have with it is there is no way to integrate advertising, which on this forum isn't a problem as they don't have ads on it.
Tapatalk makes it so much easier to use a forum on a small device. There are no downsides that I have found, either for the user or the admins.

If you have information I have not found, I'd love to be directed towards it. There are many, many forums that use tapatalk including bladeforums. I don't think Spark would put security second.

While I have tapatalk (on three different platforms! Android phone, Kindle Fire, and larger Android Tablet) and while I find it a real timesaver on-the-go, I do understand that *any* plug-in or add-on to web software can introduce complexities, and Spyderco staff has limited time to devote to the forum. They are still working out the kinks from the forum upgrade.

I find that the Tapatalk client is not without it's issues as well, it doesn't handle posts with lots of pictures very well. I will sometimes get a Force Close while reading a post with lots of pics, or it won't load pics after a certain point. At least it is not a very expensive app though (for the client, I think it is free to put on the server?), I purchased it for each of my 3 platforms and appreciate the time it saves me.

If Spyderco ever does find the time to try and install it, I would appreciate it and enjoy using it, but recognize their time to devote to managing the forum software is limited.

Plenty of forums out there use it and none had any security problems. On the other hand another forum I read use the security excuse, then come around made their own paid version. So yeah it's because they can't figure out how to insert their half page sized ad into tapatalk.

Thanks for the request. Unfortunately rodloos hit the nail on the head. If the forum were my only responsibility it would probably be an option that I could make happen. However since that's not the case it's not something I see happening any time soon. That's not to say it will never happen, but it's not on the list of priorities at this point.
