I posted my hawk trainer on a thread over at another forum and one of the guys suggested that with a slimmed down head and longer handle it would make a nice SD cane. I thought that was interesting so went out tonight with Nok and made this up . Still needs final sanding, sealing, and finishing but thought I'd show the progress so far. 34"overall, 7"head, 1/2"x13/8 shaft

Interesting and topical for me. I was born with a bad foot and use a cane or walking stick when I'm walking far. I need a 41" cane which leaves me with few choices. I just picked up the Cold Steel Slim Stick and after I replace the silver golf ball it will be at 40".

Been thinking about making some canes and I'm glad to see your design as I haven't seen one like it. As long as I'm carrying it anyway it might as well have some SD value.

I like this quite a bit. Good to have a shillelagh while hiking, aye?

Here is a pic of the Nok Hawk Trainer I did that inspired this. I got up early this morning and added a handle type butt end and rubber pad to the cane, finish sanded. added a supper glue sealer to the wood and resanded to a gloss. it's hanging now waiting for the first coat of epoxy lacquer to dry

here is the finished Hawk cane. Added a handle grip to the end that extended it another2"and a rubber pad on the butt. Sealed with super glue and three coat epoxy lacquer

Very nice work. It's beautiful and the fact that it is the only one just like it in the world is really cool.

Could you add a 12" long pointy metal thing to the handle that slides into the cane? Or maybe a 3" - 4" blade fixed blade blank knife with no handles? That may be better for legal reasons.

Again, nice work.
