Basically what the title implies, does anyone have one yet? How do you like it? Any pics would be appreciated as well.

I haven't had the time for a closer view as cutting tool; for the moment it's a nice, new toy. But I'm able to serve you with pictures :)

Great pics peter! That looks like a must own.

If its possible, could we have a pic of it open and closed next to another spydie, to get a sense for how big it is?

Thank you for the video and pictures! I can't believe this is categorized as an auto. You're still in contact with the blade too when you open it.

I want to know how far up the 440c goes. The knife is a powder cast (steel and plastic polymer combination pressed and heated to form the handle) material according to the documentation. But the blade states it's 440 steel. How much of the blade is 440? How many times can I sharpen it before I start hurting the casting itself?

The way I understand it the powdered metal, in this case 440C, is mixed with plastic, so it can be injected into the mold. Then, at some point in the MIM process, the plastic disappears and only the steel is left. The blade of the S was made the same way. Bottom line, you can sharpen until you hit the cutouts.

From Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_injection_molding

The process involves combining fine metal powders with plastic binders which allow the resulting metal powder and plastic mix to be injected as a liquid into a hollow mold using equipment similar to standard plastic injection molding machines. After the part is cured (or cooled) and de-molded, but before the plastic binding matrix is removed, the part is referred to as a 'green part'. The next step is to remove the plastic binders from between the metal particles with the application of solvents and/or thermal processes. The resulting slightly porous (2-4% "air") metal part is sintered at temperatures great enough to bind the surfaces of the particles to one another, but not enough to melt the metal outright. Densities of 96-98% of that of solid, forged parts are common.

So it is just as Deacon said, there is no way Spyderco would ever produce a blade that would run out of blade material to sharpen.

Yeah, I guess that makes more sense.

Forgive me for being naive, but I don't see what practical application this design would have that a more conventional Spyde or even an auto would have. Anyone have any insight as to its POU, aside from the cool factor?

I think they were looking for something along the line of a folding swick. being that the perrin hole gives issues to making a conventional folder, this may have been the next best bet.

The finger hole allows much control in both utility and self defense applications. As the above poster stated, incorporating that hole
in a traditional folder would be very difficult (and probably extremely
ugly). Plus, for a fighting knife, I'd rather have one that might close
and maybe pinch my palm a little rather than one that fails and chops
off a few fingers. I think it looks like a very nice and practical design
for a folding backup defensive knife and I think I must buy one now!!!

:)
