Looking up:

Two young Great-Horned Owls in a nest in a tree in forest (I've never seen young GH owls before so this was a real treat. They didn't make a sound and I saw nothing of an adult. These two are as big as full-sized chickens): http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b188/oregun/04-16-2010105.jpg

These stationary eagle pics are pedestrian. I waited 20 minutes for some heart-racing action and wouldn't you know it just as I was pushing on with gear stowed a Peregrin Falcon, much smaller than the eagle, bombs the eagle and I ,of course, missed that pic. Probably a territorial issue between these predators. Both birds left the area lickity-split and I could only get vague long shots... I'll keep trying for some action shots.

NICE!!!

Yeah, I do like nature pictures as well. They're truly a treat and a great sense of pride when you can snap them yourself, and can do so naturally (i.e., Mother Nature at her finest... not staged or set up). The thing is these shots are often those "Kodak moments" that you happen to come across... and, if your photographic equipment isn't sitting right there in your hands ready to go, you're probably are going to miss the shot. Been there and done that too many times.

Thanks for sharing these with us!

nice pics. wow. totaly cool!! a+++ phenomenal!!!!

in the second to last shot, if the head was turned just slightly more it would have been perfect. an award winning profile shot!

These photo's are really nice, am curious though, why are they called bald eagles?, they're a beautiful and regal looking bird with no sign of feather loss.

Great photos as always Oregon!

Hi, just curious, what length lens were you using, I bet that eagle was not easy to get so close to.

Hi, just curious, what length lens were you using, I bet that eagle was not easy to get so close to.

All the pics were shot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 with 12X optical zoom. I'm nut sure what length that translates into. It is lite to carry and quick to bring to action. Plus, it has video.

The eagle, kinda looked like a white-haired guy in an overcoat (except for the white tail) from the rear, was at the top of of large Douglas Fir on a hill-top. He overlooked some shallow lakes littered with his prey. I stayed on the ground and snuck up on him from behind and stopped moving when he turned each time.
