Weaves conventional Balisong elements with innovative features expected from Spyderco. Elongated handles modify the Fly's center of balance over traditional Balisong knives. The added handle length creates a unique feeling of fluid and controlled equilibrium when swinging and manipulating. Four way positioned tip-up clip, Spring loaded locking latch attached to either handle for left or right hand use. Squeezing the closed handles together releases the locking lever latching the blade closed. Blade is 154CM Stainless Steel and ground for balancing symmetry. Sharpened on one-side only with a plainedge on the cutting side with a swede-grind on the spine.
*4-Way positioned tip-up clip
*Screw together construction
*Spring loaded latch locks blade closed
*Flat ground blade
*Made in Golden, Colorado U.S.A.
Closed: 4-9/16 in.
Overall: 7-3/32 in.
Blade: 3 in.'
Edge: 2 1/2 in.
Blade Steel: 154CM

It's a nice little knife. I'd like to get one eventually just theres so many other spydies. I flips pretty nice though with the slightly larger handle to blade ratio. The G-10 one it's REALLY REALLY light. It has thin steel liners that are skeletonized to the g-10 scales. It would look nice next to my original Spyderfly. Just wish they would make the original spyderfly with g-10 scales. If you get the chance definitely take it it's fun. Or you could just buy it. If i had the funds avaiable to get it or if someone gave it to me i'd definitely take it.

Ive got the trainer and the regular black one. They are awesome blades I really like them. And I cant lie I play with the trainer alot more :D Its worry free fun!
I picked my trainer up at the shoppe for about $60 and the regular black g10 one for around $100. I just checked and unfortunately it looks like they dont carry them anymore.
I used to have a couple of each but I only need one of each so thats all i have now.

I see the listing, but it certainly isn't available with a trainer for that price. I mean, it's no longer available, but there is no evidence of the trainer being included for that price. Maybe something changed?

Should be "47 in stock" now ;)
That's a great deal IMO. The best deal I could find else where was $107 for the Smallfly and $65 for the Trainer. Just got my first balisong yesterday (Kimura II) and there is no way I couldn't add a Spydie flipper as well. I'm afraid I've once again managed to broaden my addiction. :D
The Shoppe has the smallfly for 89 not sure what shipping is but that's a killer price. I may have to pick one up.

They are a subsidiary of Knifeworks which is IMO, one of the best retailers out there. Ordered my smallfly and trainer from them on 4/13 and had it in my hand on 4/16.

CShoppe also has the trainer for $47. I just ordered one due to disco'd status. I didnt get the real one. Even I have to admit to myself that I dont need a butterfly knife. BUT, I got the trainer cause I want to screw around with all the flippy moves. It looks so cool and like a lot of fun.

If they discontinue the bali's there will probably be no new ones.
With all new legislations on balisongs and auto's there will not be a high demand of these type of knives.
The waved knives wil also dissapear as Sal stated so these bali's will probably follow.
How do they flip?.
They are little knives so not the best size flippers.
Also the handles are thick and not round enough to be very fast.
If not flipping the handles are ergonomic and nicely shaped for cutting jobs.
So it will be a nice user bali instead of a flipping bali.
Very grippy g10 and a very strong clip.
The blade is thick and strong and would do a good job as utility knife.
Not a slicer as ffg :spyder: but would be a very playable edc.
It is flippable but not the best flipper around.
But i think the combo deal is great:D.

A good bali for the flip. It's small compared my BM42 therefore I flip it more rapidly but it's very nice. For aerial, it's too small: it turn too quickly and the handles are too little for my random reception.
After reading this, I'd really like to get a set. It would be fun to play with, even if it didn't get used much. I might have to get a trainer, just for kicks.

So is the smallfly discontinued completely? Or is it just the MIM? Does anyone know?

So is the smallfly discontinued completely? Or is it just the MIM? Does anyone know?Only the MIM version was on the "retirement list" last November. Am guessing some folks are interpreting the lower prices on the G-10 trainer and live blade versions as a sign they're being dropped as well. However, based on a few other models that have been put on special, I'm not at all sure their assumption is correct.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks Deacon!
I decided to pass.
I flip a 42 & a Tachyon.
After trying the Red White and Blue Bailyo
I know I like 'em a bit larger.
The Tachyon is not huge, but flips great and is as small as I care to go.

Just ordered a Smallfly from knifeworks. The sickness is so bad I had them ship next day so I could have it in my hands for the weekend.
This will be my first Balisong-probably a collector piece but we'll see. Last I checked, balisongs are LEGAL to carry in NY State. If anyone can clarify that would be great.
I can see it being fun to flip around but a little worried about keeping my fingers intact. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Actually they are illegal to carry and OWN. Plus with the recent commotion in NY, it's possible it'll be confiscated.
Sorry mate. :(

http://www.autoknifeworks.com/statelaws.aspxSorry but you are 99% wrong. Under New York State law balisongs are not considered to be switchblades or gravity knives and are legal both to own and to carry. The only part of the state where that would not be true is New York City, which, in terms of area represents a mere 1% of the total state.

Another required feature for it to be considered an illegal "gravity" knife is that the blade can be locked in the open position. I don't own a Smallfly but based on the pictures I don't think you can lock the blade in the open position.

OTOH, I wouldn't put anything past Vance. ;)
FWIW, the actual NYS court decision declaring balisongs not to be gravity knives was based on the compound motion needed to open one. The court held that to be considered a gravity knife, a knife has to open "with a simple flick of the wrist".

Ah ok, I stand corrected.
The term gravity knife seems to often include balisongs in law texts, so I just made an assumption and it seemed to fit the image.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the quick responses.
Thanks also to Deacon for reinforcing my thought about the legality of balisongs in NY. I recall seeing an article somewhere about the specific case that looked at the whole "gravity knife" thing.
I live outside of New York City so no worries there.
My normal carry is Para 2 anyway. Just wanted to make sure I could carry the smallfly if I chose to mix it up a bit.
Can't wait till tomorrow!
