I just bought a Sazbofly. Wowie!

Does anyone have any production data? I understand that the first were in VG10, then 440C I think, mine is marked 154CM. How many were made and are they likely to go back in production after the previous Spyderco butterfly knife problems? Thanks.

Well,

it's not complete yet, but this might be of help: http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=B03_SzaboFly

I think you might want to update that wiki. The VG 10s were the first production, as indicated (and evidenced by the VG 10 markings on the ones that I purchased). They were not offered only to collectors. A few were bought by individual law enforcement officers in my agency. I still have one new in box in my gunsafe, as I left one of my first generation VG 10 Spyderflys in one of the pockets on my tac vest and never really used the Szabo. Others were put to use, however.

The 154 CM flys are current production (produced totally in the U.S. of all U.S. made parts, to limit issues with ICE), and are restricted to law enforcement and military sales. My Smallyfly is marked 154 CM. I have not picked up a new generation Szabo. I have the first generation, and I actually vastly prefer the ergonomics of the Smallfly.

Thanks for the information! I didn't think very many got out on the "street" so to speak, but i will update accordingly.

The Smallfly Trainer and live blade are available to law enforcement and military buyers. Assuming you qualify (and since you have a Szabo I assume you do qualify), you should be able to locate one or both with little problem.

Until you do, here is a quick glimpse of the trainer in use (prior to the demonstration of the Ed Schempp Rock Salt which is the actual subject of this video);
