hi spyderco forums i am a longtime lurker here, always enjoy my time spent here (so thanks for that) and this is my first thread.

also thanks to Kristi Hunter for helping me get registered hassle-free

i also have a question:

some of my knives, like my byrd cara cara and camillus heat and sizzle are screwed together with torx (i think, correct me if i'm wrong) screws.

benchmade make the blue box service kit with bits to take apart their knives, i always thought these were the same as torx but i read the other day that the benchmade screws were different.
are the bits in the benchmade blue box regular torx bits or are they different, proprietary to benchmade? if not would it be a good set to buy to take down my byrd, camillus and future spydercos and other blades (my current spydercos don't have screws)

thanks in advance

I've never tried the BM kit. I have two torx sets that I use for my Spyderco knives. One is from Home Depot (Husky brand) and the other is from Lowes (Kobalt). Cost was about $6 a set.

They work great for all my Spydies!

The Benchmade Blue Box bits are just normal Torx. There's nothing special about them, except for the fact that they rust very easily.

Do youself a favor and get a few Snap-On torx bits, they have a lifetime warranty. If you can't wait, hit Ace or Home Depot and look for a set of hardened USA made bits.

thanks guys

type00rev, do you know which number torx you need to take down most knives? usually there's a small one for the screws and a bigger on on the pivot right? most of my knives (byrd, camillus) look to have the same torx screws.

i really only need the torx for my knives so if i could just buy those i would
