I'm attending a wedding in FL next week, and while in FL will also be visiting Disney theme parks.
Does anyone here know if the security is as draconian as Six-Flags? I'm considering just sticking with my SpyderCard or a Boker Subcom Folder inside the wallet, and if I'm made to step through a metal detector, I won't have to place a Spyderco 'out in the open' inside that little bin you are made to empty your pockets into.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Mike

:spyder: a surefire flashlight makes a great fistload. If I cant carry that a "sharkie" brand marker with the label sanded off will pass any checkpoint except carry on at the airport. :spyder:

Episteme,
Merry Christmas and here's hoping you have a great time in Florida. When I visited in 2005 they made a cursory inspection of your packs or purses as you went in. Nonetheless, every day I managed to have a Meercat in the bottom of the back pocket of my shorts without grief. Used it rarely, once to cut moleskin for a lady that had some foot trouble. Bandaids and moleskin are recommended, if not for you, they are appreciated by others with tender feet.
If you visit Kennedy, forget about anything other than a wallet or sunglasses.

Thanks for the replies.
I think i will stick with either a Spydercard or SS Standard inside the wallet (my Standard C05 fits very nicely into a side pocket of my wallet). Both Spyders will sure be enough for any cutting I will need to do, and I'll use the utmost discretion (ie: emergency cutting uses only).
Merry Christmas.
Best,
Mike

Hi Episteme,
I avoid the tourist areas, but I gather they do some sort of check of those going into the theme parks. I read a recent news story of a granny being arrested going into Disney for having a pistol and knife in her day pack. She was from out of state and did not have a CCW.
Floirda law does allow us to carry a "common pocket knife," but what that is, exactly, seems to have been left open to interpretation. A property owner, such as a theme park, may be more restrictive for its own reasons.
Hope you have a safe and enjoyable vacation.

...from what I recall of the "common pocket knife" clause was that it was left
to the discretion of the cops. Generally speaking, if the blade exceeded the
"four finger rule" you were wrong ( i.e. a blade over 3" give or take ) it's
actually a very common sense rule. I never had a problem with any knife
in FLA. ( even the spyderhawk ) -

BTW Episteme : I'd go for the subcom, as it's more "sheep friendly"
( I like that Immanuel Kant avatar! :D)

Not sure about Disneyland but you are so right about Six Flags. After the mile walk to the gate from the parking lot I didnt even think about the ZDP Caly jr in my pocket. The security check point was crazy so I made the round trip back to the truck to put away the knife.
I would just leave them in the car.
Peace

In Florida, knife carry is not a big issue. The thing about Disney is, true enough it is private property and their rules maybe more restrictive. Try sticking with what you have stated or a light, pen, sharkee...is good and you will not cry if it is confiscated or lost in the theme park. Enjoy yourself and avoid the controversy all together......That is sad about the Grandmother in terms of arrest. She could have just applied for an out of state ccw permit to avoid the possible felony charge. Take care all and God Bless!

Thanks for the Kant comment. Reading his moral philosophy was what got me interested in philosophy as an undergrad (and now I'm a Ph.D student at Hopkins philosophy)

Worse comes to worse, you could get awaythrough the metal detectors
with something like this -
