OK guys,

I feel the pain and my neglect of this thread.

This giving us hope, that you will be back to business of photography soon.
May be other people will follow you as well (I will not name them, everybody knows, who I am talking about.):D
You need to take a lot of new pictures before your new baby will be born.

As per many requests for my lazy bum to get off and do some work, here are a couple of very quick and nasty shots I took upon receiving this package today :D

I think I like it :) and I think it'll end up an EDC !

come on Dan, these are nice pictures. I am glad that you finally got Black Lum. I really like this black almite handle.
By the way, did you get your custom Persian? :p

Thanks Roman :)

I have a few more pics which I am planning to do/ update. A few more Kopa coming in the next few weeks will get me up to speed with those as well (for the Kopa Kabana).

The Black Almite handles seem to be very nice indeed, the F&F on my Black Lum is seemingly flawless upon initial inspection. Blade in ZDP189 seems to also be as per normal for ZDP... maybe not as bright and sparkly as VG10, but it is to be expected of ZDP. I will use it and give a review a bit later.

Regarding Persian mini battalion, they are still residing with Brad (yes you read right...more than one ;) ). He assure me that he is tailoring new clothes for them and as per Brad's fashion he is meticulous in his attention to detail. He is proceeding nicely and hopefully he will be able to complete them in a little while. I'm not too worried because everything he does is magnificent... these won't be any different :D He's a bit busy right now but my patience is rock solid. You have to wait for masterpieces to evolve, can't rush the process :p

More pics to come later... maybe

Here are a couple of new additions to the Kopa Kabana (yes, I know, I have to update that thread seriously !!!)

Here are a new Turquoise and the newly released Giraffe Bone. This example of the GBP is fairly orange in its colouration. Not too much grain either eaxcept for the obverse (clip) side. Might have to request a browner and grainer sibling for this :)

Very nice Daniel! There certainly seems to be a wide range of color and grain structure in the giraffe bone, but I've yet to see any that isn't really attractive.

Congratulations Daniel!
This is by far the best looking Giraffe Bone Kopa I’ve seen so far. Both sides look very attractive – grain or no grain. And the bone color is very vibrant.
Great pictures might have something to do with it.
Thanks,

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Here is one which had eluded me thus far... well, not so much eluded but I was spending a lot on Kopas and Persians to get this one. My good friend Simon G of this forums gifted this one to me. It makes a great complement to the rest of my Lums. And since I got it for Chinese New Year I thought I'd post it with the obligatory orange as a sign of prosperity and gratitude :D

Thanks again Simon :p

But wait .... there's more :)

I have recently been admiring a lot of knives, but decided to go back to one of the ones I like a lot and also my first customised LBK from our good friend Brad/ Tricod of this forum. He does FANTASTIC work and he's always great to talk to. Full of ideas, suggestions and you can almost hear his brain ticking over with designs :)

This is one stock Lava and the FG linen micarta which he did for me. It's been getting a bit more pocket time and is a bloody awesome alternative to the factory model :p

Here are some of the Massad Ayoob. Very unusual blade, and I'd say not to everyone's liking in the hand especially. Fairly thin handles for the profile of the blade. Deceptively long in hand.

I am still looking for the few elusive ones so I can photograph them. SE Ayoob was one that I missed out on earlier :( and the JD Smiths in black micarta too. It's funny how when you look back and think... bugger.... maybe I should've got them.... oh well, there's always another day :p

Let's continue. Introducing Mr JD Smith in FG clothing :D

A lot of talk in here and other forums about this latest release. I believe it is one of the better new releases. Very nice pointy tip, solid lined G10 handles, nice matt finish on the clip, beautifully flat ground for awesome slicing power ! Nice handle ergos to accomodate most hand sizes from small to medium/large. No Boye Dent for easier disengagement of lock and seamless continuation of the silhoutte on the spine side.

As per normal photos are taken in my 'studio' (outside my house :p), today shot with my Canon P&S, and also as per usual no Photoshopping required - knife does all the work :D Overcast afternoon great for shiny bits.

With the lovely colours of Autumn upon us here is Sydney I couldn't resist grabbing my P&S camera with me whilst I did some gardening. The D2 Millie (thanks Curtis :) ) accompanied me in my gardening duties today and it came in handy a few times.

Whilst taking a break I decided to shoot the FG G10 D2 Military in a few spots around the garden. A long overdue post this one.... about time I got back to taking some pics. Enjoy :D

The knife is a my Large Persian user, the figurine is a 12" Master Chief. I must say I bought it cos it'd look OK as a substitute to my Sven knife prop figurine from Ikea. His weapon retention isn't so good though. He is slightly heavier than a normal sized GI Joe action figure but still probably not heavy enough to hold a Manix :D Hell, he can't even grip his own supplied rifle properly !

Note: Master Chief's use of the choil - though I did correct him a bit as he was holding it slightly fore of the belly of the choil.... fingers get cut that way I said ! He agreed but said that if I forced him to hold it any other way he would stab me :p

Hey Vic,

Thanks mate. I'd have to say that a fair few of my collection has been either gifted away, sold, or passed on to mates either here in Oz or to other parts of the world. I have taken on board a lot of knives and as Peter1960 has said he believes I am a 'photo-collector' :p I like buying knives, taking pics of them, then getting bored of not using them, so I sell or gift them :D

Unfortunately many of the knives you see here I have not EDC'd and those which I do not think I will EDC for one reason or another means I get rid of them. I do have an EDC pile of about 1-2 dozen (yeah ... I know.... I lost count :p). Pretty soon that number will also have to drop so I intend to give some of those away as well.

I have been very slack due to work and family commitments and have not paid attention to my picture thread for some time now to the dismay of a few of my forum buddies especially Roman (bh49 :D - they are coming Roman I promise ;) )

Hey Vash

you'd be surprised at what I have and do not have currently in my collection. The Kris unfortunately I sold off a while ago. I regret doing so but I know it is in a good home now :). I couldn't see myself using it then but now I might do so in the garden. So I'll have to grab one sometime in the future.

Currently concentrating on getting a few I have been meaning to trial out for cutting power and EDC viability . A few trails to hunt down and in particular the Anniversary Delica as a user :p. Aside from that the Millies , Kopa and Persian projects have been keeping me occupied. Also I am now getting more MBC/ SD oriented blades to complement my previous martial arts training and future arts as well.

Will then sell off the ones I don't use or like (or if I get bored with them :) I have the attention span of a gnat :p )

I will add more pics to this thread as Spring & Summer are here in Oz I will do more yard shots.

Should I get this Kreined?

That's a good question. The blade looks so beautiful just as it is (well, especially so in your excellent photos) that it would lose something with a full flat grind (if that's what you mean by Kreined). Then again, it would probably be able to slice through concrete at that point, so if you have a back-up or 2, why not? :D

Thanks Wouter,

I like the Kopa (ummm ... of course i do !!! :D). The CF scales is a bit different to the ones on offering previously and it harkens back to the beginning of the series when the Cocobolo and black micarta were introduced. I think it adds a simple elegance with such modern materials used in a very technical and fashionable manner :p

I like the Rock Salt but haven't had the chance to use it yet being too busy with work. But I see some Summer gardening projects coming up which I wil have to INVENT some ways to use the Rocky ;):D

Roman, just use it. Get one more if you want. It is very hardy material and priced pretty well might I add. Even though I bought mine before the price drop. The Kopa whilst being a collectible Spyderco really is wasted if it just sits in the cupboard.

A group shot is on the cards but I'll have to get the timing right - with so many Kopas in the cupboard and so many people in the house I have to plan the photo shoot so as to get maximum creative time with my lovelies :D

Just realised the reflection of the sandstone wall edge on the blade in the first pic makes the millie look like it has a hollow grind partway up the blade.... obviously that isn't the case :p

The drangonflies have been buzzing around my place for weeks now. Camellias and a few other flowers all in bloom. Tried to get a shot with dragons, camellias and other flowering plants but nature conspired against me. So this one had to do.

the iron wood isnt, i think i might have told Dan otherwise or he might have got it wrong without my help..lol. the others are stabilized, i like working with them because i can buff the bolsters as well as the wood iin one shot. if the wood isnt it starts to take on the color of the rouge in the tiny crevices. it also could shrink/expand with different temps and humidity. Also some exotic woods are more brittle and will break/chip/crack easily, stabilized woods usually dont. lastly if it is stabilized you dont have to worry about any finish so that is why i try to use stabilized woods over non stabilized woods.

Great shots and great knives! ;)

Great work also Mr Tony............:)

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your kind words. The Australian sky is indeed very nice for mirror shots, sometimes very clear and blue and sometimes nice cloud formations. I didn't want to use the mirror because your mirror shots are legendary and I didn't want to intrude on that niche :p (but also it takes time to clean the mirror, bring it out and setup etc ;) )

Tony has done a fantastic job on these and I have a few more coming which will look also quite nice !

My favourite would also be the Masur Birch, but that figuring in the Desert Ironwood is quite superb too.

My conundrum at the moment is whether I should use Tony's knives or stick to my million other production Kopas ??? I am leaning toward using ALL of Tony's ones because they just look and feel awesome. I also have some unstabilised Australian hardwoods with Tony and we are trying to figure out which would be the best ones with which to rescale a Kopa.

I promise to finish my Kopa Wheel with the Production Kopas as well as a Kopa Wheel of Tonydahose modded Kopas. These duo of wheels should make for interesting comparison. I am betting Tony's compilation will look decidedly more colourful.

I hope Sal will take a look at this thread and maybe push out the 17th Kopa sleeper with one of these scales :p

Thanks guys :)

Roman they are 9mm rounds I pressed last week for a comp. The projectiles are coated lead rounds as many ranges here in Oz don't allow the use of jacketed ammo. I prefer the round nose projjies as they feed a bit more reliably in my Czech made pistol :)

Now back to the Para 2...... I think I love it. The compression lock is not my favourite but it is quite good once you get used to it. The Para2 action is very very smooth. It is also very easy to flick open :p
