View Full Version : my precioussss...
Hello,
I'm the new guy here.. I've been lurking though, and hanging out in BF too, but since I'm hooked on Spydies, I think I don't have any other choice but to join here too :)
So, happy to be here, and here's my little collection of USERS so far;

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydies/DSCF1473.jpg
As You an see, I have an affection for crossbill and reverse-S type blade Spyderco's. Latest member of my family is that "bad mother" grey Matriarch.. God it's awesome!
Here's my worn little belt-pocket for Cricket, I use it so I'll have more room in my pockets for other Spydies :)
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydies/DSCF1489.jpg
I have a order coming from Ebay-dealer, which contains byrdwrench and Caly3 SE, so we'll see if I'm more and more hooked on SE's soon.. at least that Matriarch got me convinced about SE's ability cut.

I like your fob and holser for you're Cricket.
Welcome to the forum! :D
Why do all your users look brand new?
My users all look like the morning after Armageddon. ;)
I think I'm still fairly "light" user.. my Tasman has seen most of the heavy work.
I kinda try to pamper my Dodo, which I carry the most (apart from The Cricket, which is always with me)
I have a couple of puukko's in my toolbox, which get the real beating, but I think after I get that Caly, we'll see how it stands up for abuse :)
That Byrdench is going to be a good edc too when I'm riding my bike, since it's 22 years old "lady" that needs a little fixing all the time, and I don't want to haul all of my tools with me in the saddle bags.
As for the Matriarch, actually that one is not going to be a user.. first, don't never want to use it for the purpose it's meant to,
and second, I'm somewhat familiar with the history of "the grey ones", so I'll just carry it for a while and maybe then I'll put it away to my drawer.. but can't do that to a new(to me) knife, now can I? That would be a shame..
uhmm, does this mean, that I'm becoming a collector? Noooooo.. I don't want to! I wanna carry my blades, not to store them away..
so, got a few more, now I have pretty much the curved ones I was after.
Here's a group shot of all my :spyder:

I just recently got my "new" camera, its a Canon powershot S1, and of course I had to test it out.. just some random shots, I mainly tested the difference in light use. I have to get me some kind of DIY lightbox and a strong light, since decent sunlight is not available in six months.. :(
Yup, you've guessed it, some curved ones :)

The Yojimbo.

so, here's my arsenal for the final battle.. let them evil little bugger-smurfs come, I'm ready :D

Very nice pics:cool:
Especially the first and the last;)
Okay,
yesterday was just an ordinary day, I was riding around the woods, and taking some shots of stuff, including this happy foursome:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydoutdoors/IMG_0079.jpg
Manix, Captain, a Hukari, and a small Fiskars axe. I was aiming to test out that new Hukari, against my Fiskars. I had my knives with me too, so I could take some pics.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydoutdoors/IMG_0083.jpg
As it turns out, that Hukari couldn't take a beating, not even close. I was batoning it through some wood, and this happened:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydoutdoors/IMG_0089.jpg
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydoutdoors/IMG_0090.jpg
That's officially a broken P.O.S.
continues...
Well, I was P**ed off, that my new beater had broken down, still, I decided to take some shots of my two reliable :spyder:'s
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydoutdoors/IMG_0101.jpg

The only broblem with the Captain;
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spydoutdoors/IMG_0086.jpg
You can't use your thumb to push, and batoning is a bit difficult, since this cuts the baton sooner or later..
So, today I went riding again. The mailman delivered some new goods,
can You spot the newcomer:

well, I do :)
So, here's some shots of my favorite ones, once again, here's some Dodo's and stuff..
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spyds51/Capture_00022.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spyds51/Capture_00033.jpg
in case you've missed some of them, there's 4 Dodo's, a Superhawk, a Grey Matriarch, a Meerkat, a Tasman Salt and a Cricket in these pics.
So,
here's one of the clever little curved ones, sadly now disco'ed Meerkat, with the neat phantom lock. If there's ever a need for sprint run, this should be it.
The blade is the same size as in Cricket, but the handle actually is really comfortable, a full five finger grip is easy, at least for small/medium hands. So this is like a Cricket on steroids :)
It's also very NKP-friendly. See, ain't it just cute:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spyds51/Capture_00038.jpg
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spyds51/Capture_00039.jpg
It's got sceletonized steel liners:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spyds51/Capture_00040.jpg
Here's the Phantom lock.. well, actually it doesn't show much here, but the whole handle operates as the lock. You just have to get yourself one to study it out:D
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/spyds51/Capture_00041.jpg

*bump*
That's just what I scored last week for a very reasonable price!
A PE Japan made AUS-6 Meerkat LNIB. It is just a cute little knife with a wire clip that makes it disappear in your watch pocket. Still it cuts like a big one when it comes to cardboard or similar cutting chores.
The phantom lock makes it fun to turn it over to knife-interested people around me (that I try to educate for quite a while now, with some success).
Most of them can't figure it out how to close it :D
I'm proud to have one in my posession at last though; took me quite a while to get it; they're surprisingly hard to come by. I do like the blade of the Cricket, but the handle is just a bit too small for me to EDC, so this one is perfect as a "second" EDC knife (or actually third, I carry a SAK on my keyring ever since I watched MacGyver 20 years ago :) ).

PS: Pics to come, stay tuned.

I think its just one awesome knife! I love my manix, and its a tank, but this one is lean and mean, slick all the way! So I call it The Big Slick :)

manix vs ATR, the cutting edge is just 1mm longer in the Manix.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/atr/Capture_00004.jpg
And yes,. there's a story behind that clip.. more pics and an explanation to follow later.
So, I'd like to see your ATR:s too! There's not so many pics around, when I searched.
Long story short. I got this Slick in the mail today, and was in heaven when I opened the package. But just after 15mins, and I was so pissed off (to myself), that there's nothing to compare with. You know, first, you get a knife that you instantly fall in love with, and then, you brake it.
What happened then?
Well, I'm a lefty. I changed the clip to suit my needs. after testing it for a while, i realized, that this is one tough clip.It bites to my pocket and won't let go. So, I got a bright idea: I'll just bend it a little, and put it back.
After some tinkering, I was almost pleased with it.But no- I had to try to adjust it just a little bit more... and yes, it snapped!!
I was so furious to myself that I cant remember the last time I was so pissed off!
well, after settling down, I figured that I'll have to get some kind of clip for it, so I can carry it. Luckily(?) I had my D-fly's clip just sitting in the drawer, so- with a little finetuning=> It looks stupid, but it works.
Eventually, I'll track down a new one, or get me some spring steel and try to make a new one.
the clip:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/atr/Capture_00020.jpg
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/atr/Capture_00021.jpg

that would piss me off too, especially when you just got it, im the sameway with clips that clip so good its hard to get your knife off of your pocket
very nice pics and good fix too, i like the new clip better btw

BTW, about the clip. I havent handled on of these or know the sizes but would a Millie or Paramillie clip fit better? they both have a 3 screw pattern. I stripped the clip on my d2 para and it looks great. or maybe a barrel screw clip off a Salt series knife would do? then ya still got a ti clip ;)

I may be in the minority but I think this clip looks better than the stock pocket eater. The STR Ti option would be really cool:D
Please post a new pic if you get a custom clip, it would be cool to see.

One of the only things that kept me from getting one earlier when they were easy pickins was the clip, if I had known the D'fly clip would work so readily, I'd of tried it. It looks good to me. Oh well, one more for the list... thanks, good info.

I guess I'll show of my ATR's. The black one is my EDC. I am kinda keeping my eye out for anoter black one and a Ti but usually I am too slow or they are too pricey.
First time I am posting a picture from Photobucket so hope it works. I should start using my XSi for pictures but I am not to proficient at reducing the image size or using the camera yet.

Hey Nightdog, the black ATR was the first one I purchased of the three, the second :spyder: I ever purchased. It was about 3 years ago when I kinda was trying to get back into :spyder:'s. I really didn't start buying more knives till this year. But to me the black makes it look smaller since its not all shiny. A little less noticeable. It felt kinda big and heavy at first but but now it feels just right balances nicely in the palm.

Okay, here's a USED Civvie, accompanied by it's little sister..:

okay,
i've done some recearch, and i might be able to get a orig. ATR clip, but until that, or until I get a custom, here's the latest fixup:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/civvie/Capture_00066.jpg

This black clip is bigger than the D-fly's and is less noticeable, since its black. It came from a used Civvie.

hey nightdog, I like that red against blue background thing you've got going there.
spyderco's big little knives are way cool...I've got two nu ladybugs on the way and bought SS PE cricket no. 2 lately...:spyder:
Agent Starling
Well thank you agent Starling.. but that red/blue was an accident, glad that it looks okay.
Here's some more LBK's (little big knives), my Bug and the Mini-Police! I can't stop playing with it. Bug is a cool little keychain knife, but the Mini-police is just something else. So small, WITH a lock, and solid as heck. Not to mention, sharp as a surgery knife. Make no mistake, this thing is a thoroughbred Spyderco.
We need more LBK's from :spyder: :D:D

Cool pics nightdog. Where can I get a jumbo-sized Cricket?
Hi Nightdog, glad the mini police found a good home;)!
all the best regards,SSB:spyder:
Thanks again SSB! :)
That Cricket sure looks huge.. maybe we need a Jumbo-Cricket :)
Okay fellow :spyder: Lovers. I've been away for a month, and today I came back to see what's going on. I saw the marvelous ManixII lottery, and that just made my day.
Just to (hopefully) make someone elses day, here's a Dodo with some new feathers.. I included my Caly3 CF to give some perspective about the CF. I think they both look incredibly beautiful.

Thanks Brandon, it is smooth. I'd actually like some texture, but I can live with it. I still have some regular Dodo's to go to if I need more grip :)
And yes, these feathers are from Germany :D

Wonderful pics.. :)
I do love Your "anti-smurf" equipment.. ;) but for now, I couldn't stand the color of blue dodos: for it reminds me my university brand color too much.. (the brand of Politecnico di Torino).. XD lol
Sorry, the quality is what it is. Just tried to take some comparison shots, and I STILL can't get my light-settings right. I've tried everything, but the only way to get good shots would be, to be in direct sunlight outdoors.. and it's raining today.

pardon the pic, I only have the camera obscura in my mobile. it's much better than usual, though, must be the sunlight. :D
Spyderhawks: grim reaper's scythe sounds exactly right, I keep thinking about a Spyderhawk turned into an Karambit. :spyder:

Previously I made a thread about my DIY micro-Manix:

Someone asked some in hand-pics.. here you go. Sorry for the dirty fingers, I've been working on my motorcycle today. Note, I'm a full lefty, but tried to take these pics holding the knife in my right hand. So, the grip looks a bit funny to me, at least.

i love the momma/baby hawk pics...funny stuff :D
I got excited reading all these experiments with the Ferroclorid stuff, and just had to try it too.
I carry a worn Delica ZDP at work, she’s seen some real use. I took her as my first victim.
Then I just had to mess around with the Native 5 (don’t ask about that hole on the scale :) )

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/pahapaha/IMG_0465.jpg
and to top it off, I threw my trusty old Cricket to “the soup” too. Funny enough, the other side of the scales didn’t react as much as the other side.. but now it’s real Yin and Yang… don’t you think? Ain’t this little Cricket just helluva sexy little knife now:
