Today I got my first Harpy SE. I bid on it over at SpydieGuys (on the Bay) and never expected to get it. Well I got it and it came today. I love it. I ended up trading my Tasman Salt PE because I didn't care for the edge holding of H1 PE and I have a Centofante III coming to replace my Tasman Salt. :D

So I really like this Harpy. It's a little bit smaller than I thought, but I love it. I forgot how solid stainless feels. I'm starting to get to the point where I've come full circle. What I mean is that I am sorta starting to steer clear of knives that have screws. I like the simplicity and convenience of pinned Spydies.

This Harpy is great. It must have been manufactured recently because the box had the round clear seals to guarantee a "new" knife. The date code is "HG" so if I'm correct it was made in August 2007. So my knife is not even a month old. :D

Anyway enjoy... :)

Very nice, David! Congrats on the hawkbill! That's definitely one of recent manufacture with the bug on the blade and the seals on the box. Hot off the line in Seki.

Is this going to be a user for you?

Thanks. :)

As far as being a user? Yep, it's going to work with me tomorrow. I like hawkbills but I just wasn't too turned on by the PE Tasman. I think this will do the trick. :)

Nice pics, David! Enjoy your new knife!

I have that Harpy as well and prefer it to my Tasman hands down! :D

My first Spyderco and still one of my favorites. Shame I don't use knives like I used to. Sent it off to Golden for some TLC about a year ago and it's been sharp ever since.

Great photos David. I consider the stainless steel Harpy to be one of the three most iconic Spydercos. Agree that there's a lot to be said for the simple elegance and reliability that pinned construction offers, especially on an all stainless or bolstered knife. And yes, you're reading the date code correctly.

I agree about the Harpy being one of the most iconic Spydies. I plan also to hunt down a commemorative worker or a good old Tufram worker too as I just want to have the first knife produced by Spyderco.

I do like throwing a knife in my pocket and not worrying about screws or anything. Thanks for the date code confirmation. ;)

David,
There is a good reason why Harpy does not leave Spyderco lineup for such a long time!
Great pictures! I like the way you play with colors. Very creative!
Enjoy your new toy!

The Harpy just has that little bit of extra bulk and brute force when need be.

A great small to mid-range Hawkbill to start out on. I'm glad David put this picture up because a lot of us seasoned Spyder-heads tend to forget where we came from. My first 2 Spyderco knives were both stainless handled blades and they were very good knives and I'll never forget either one of them.

The Harpy is one Spyder that I would use with virtually any handle material. A great way to get initiated in the FRATERNITY OF HAWKBILLS

Congrats on the Harpy!

what a Hawkbill does (which is a lot of things) it does REALLY well!

I'm really loving the pics David, especially the second one with the purple background.
