Okay, I don't blame you for not believing me, so here it goes. This does include the stuff that hangs from my belt as well as the contents of my pockets. The details are subject to change, but this is what I had in my pockets this morning (and yesterday and the day before):

Hey yab,

I believe ya, I just wonder......why do you carry 9 slipjoints, 7 folders, and 2 dyads?

I can see maybe 2-3 folders and a couple slipjoints. Are you a special instructor or something like Doc?

I guess I just don't get it. ;)

Then again, for me I will never carry more than 2 knives at a time on my person. Usually that's a Spyderco and a SAK. I can see me carrying maybe 3 knives if I went camping; a folder, a fixed blade, and a SAK.

yablanowitz
05-28-2007, 12:17 PM
Partly just because I can :D

I use my knives at work, and most of our tenants are NKP. I carry smaller knives and traditional slipjoints to prevent panic when I have to use one for something in a tenant's apartment (which is pretty much a daily occurrence). I carry many because I seldom have time to sharpen at work (I've been there almost three years, and I have yet to get caught up) and working around/on hard/abrasive surfaces eats up edges in a hurry. As I've said before, my record is getting home with nine blades in need of sharpening (a couple in need of reprofiling). Having dulled nine blades in the course of the workday is no excuse for not having a sharp knife when you need it ;) :D

Carpenter jeans are wonderful things ;)

I especially like the Faded Glory brand from Wal Mart, because they have an extra pocket on the left leg below the hammer loop where I carry the Dodo and Native. Also the watch pocket is larger on that brand than the whole front pocket on some brands.

Wow you carry your Endura OPEN? I'd close it before putting it in my pocket!

Just kidding.

Why do so many people carry these compact flashlights in your pockets? And where do you keep them.. they look bulky?

Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm hardly ever out when its dark anymore. :o

Blackhair
06-14-2007, 11:13 AM
If you're worried about a bulky flashlight, you should check out the Photon Freedom Micro Light (see my previous post for picture), that thing packs a brightness punch for its size! :D

malice4you
06-14-2007, 02:01 PM
heh, how did I know that was coming...?

The leatherman, the razr, and the flashlight go in respective carriers on my belt (also not pictured ;) ). That flashlight is a surefire clone, and is only about 5mm longer than the handle of the endura. However, out of that tiny little flashlight, it's an LED (luxeon star) putting out 5W/120 lumens, which is pretty decent. I find that having a flashlight comes in handy, a lot more than you might think in fact.

Those mini photons are great little lights for when you don't need to light up an entire room, or the woods around you....

You bet. I've got one one my keyring, shacked up with with the SS Ladybug 3 and a Peak Matterhorn. A very handy trio.

In the pockets every day we have: Bob Dozier large folding hunter, Rick Hinderer kubaton w/pen setup, wallet, money clip (never liked carrying cash in a wallet) and the old keyring. Watch not pictured, it’s in the shop for a bit.

Also, my Versipack. There’s a Boker Wharcom clipped in one of the pockets and a Rinaldi/Shivworks Lil’ Loco hanging on the shoulder strap as an emergency holdout piece.

Another post with no pictures...

- cheap "credit card wallet" from Wal-Mart ($4±) - perfect size for front-pocket-carry!
- Xikar Pen (rides very well under the edge of the wallet)
- Samsung version of the Razor in a clip-on belt holster - frees up pocket room!
- wad of keys - I use smaller split rings and a clip to manage them
- Caly3 / UKPK / MiniManix
- occasionally, Cold Steel Ready Edge or home-waved Gen I or II Delica for gross abuse

Those of you with big wallets or still carrying cell phones in your pockets are wasting valuable space!

This will change very (and I mean VERY) soon because the new CMP D2 Mili should be here soon and it will more than likely replace the spot that one of the other knives is currently taking. I can say with certainty that it will not be the spot of the Assist I.

Very nice knife Jaislandboy ! :)

I have 2 of those coming to me from the Spydieguys as we 'speak'. I have been impressed with it ever since our friend Th232 let me fondle his EDC mini Persian. I compared it to my BMP Kopa and it is very similar in size....probably blade-wise there is more cutting edge with it's nicely curved belly.

Time to join in!

http://www.spydercollector.nl/upload/misc/edc_sep_07a.jpg

- Sony Ericsson M600i, I added 1gb of memory for storing my music, photos, TV series.
- Parker Pen, it takes a variety of fillings, from rollerbal to ballpoint.
- Fenix L0D CE HA & Atwood Hexbaby on the keychain
- Wallet & Tissot T-touch with the -not so often seen- brown leather band.
- Military D2 Foliage Green G10 handle
- Ti ATR SE
- Transluscent Green Victorinox Classic SD & Jester SE combo for the watchpocket.
- The new Surefire L1 with Cree light, my favorite light to date! I added a glow-in-the-dark ring on the light's bezel.
- Surefire Lanyard system for the L1, rarely used but it takes up no room or weight in my jacket.

I carry these both on my person and in my jacket.

On the subject of flashlights... same reason I carry a knife. I may not need it every day but it sure as hell is handy when I do. I work in a dark office (not complaining I like it) and sometimes have to climb under desks to look for things and a flashlight is super handy for that. I also live in Florida and there are frequent power outages. Especially during the summer.

Because I can't see in the dark.:D Sorry I couldn't resist. Take the flashlight test, carry a small photon type light with you for two weeks and see if it came in handy. Even in today's modern urbanized world, there are plenty of dark corner inside and outside of the house. Plus, modern flashlights are wonderful toys!:D

flashlights are great tools, I started carrying one this summer, and it is very useful a lot more often than you'd think. I carry either a 3W LED or 5W LED for high powered lights that last a decent amount of time as well as are especially bright in a compact package. They can be used as an impact weapon if needed, as well as to possibly temorarilly blind someone at night as self-defense tools.

I own a number of flashlights, and current ones using high-powered LEDs are leaps and bounds above the weak flashlights most people are used to - mini-maglights have nothing on them.

as for EDCing - my most current EDC:

hi Roman,
not Dan, but my experience w/VG10 vs H-1 is "no contest"...VG10 wins for edgeholding ... :)

Thank you Brian,
I read, that H1 after some use is reaching HRc62 for PE and HRc65 for SE. Does this improve edge retention? Or you would consider H1 beneficial to use only around water?

hi Roman,
I heard the same Rockwell #'s for serrated H-1, but I still feel VG-10 teeth are more wear resistant than H-1 teeth....albeit an imperfect comparison b/w my SE Temperance vs. my SE Pacific Salt..... sawing down saplings in the yard chipped one of my P.Salt's teeth , wheras the Temperance's serrations are intact still (even though I've used the Temperance twice as much).....
I recall reading a discussion about Vanadium carbides(?) in the steel matrix making the wear resistance much more than implied by the Rockwell # alone in the case of VG-10.....
So I guess for marine conditions I would choose H-1 but given a choice in freshwater uses/etc. I'd prefer VG-10 for spyderedges....

Hi Roman,

As per comments above, all true !

My Salt I sees almost permanent pocket time wherever I go, coupled with another blade depending on what I am doing or where I am going. If anywhere near beach/ water I will take Salt I only. If anywhere else I will takeSalt I plus a 'side dish' :p I like the fact that I can abuse the H1 blade cutting apples/ sandwiches etc... and the juices, acidity and foodstuff will not ruin my blade jus because I am in the middle of nowhere and cannot clean it properly.

With my only light usage of my blades I find the H1 holds its edge fairly well. Although seemingly not as good as VG10 (in my newbie opinion)

Great followup shots of your Kopa, Persian and Native BTW..... they are getting better by the day and tempting me to be foolish with my credit card :)

I've been carrying this non-:spyder:  lately.... the Kershaw NRG2 (small) .... while the styling is not for everyone, the grippy Trac tec inserts complement the G10 nicely, the "pseunetic flipper" is much much easier to open the blade vs. my Junkyard Dog 1, and is rather addictive ... :p

Can't answer all of your questions. But the pen is a Waterman Phileas. Least expensive model in the Waterman line. Overall, not bad. I gave a ballpoint version to my dad, he likes it. But knowing what I know now, I'd never buy a ballpoint Waterman again.

The pen line is named after Phileas Fogg, the main character from the book "Around the World in 80 Days." They still make the pen. Last time I checked, they averaged about $30 - $35 depending on if you want a Fountain Pen, Roller-Ball, or Ball-point. Fountain pen isn't bad, but I personally found the nib to be too soft. Avoid the ball-point. The roller-ball is nice. Best roller-ball refills on the market are from Pelikan (not a typo). And they fit inside Waterman pens. But the point does protrude a bit further than a Waterman roller-ball refill.

Hope this helps. :)

I think the Dodo is one of the sexiest and non conventional desings I`ve ever seen. It looks unusually but still remains 100% practical.
I like the looks of it, and the feeling, ergonomics.
Would like to see a wharnie blade on a Dodo handle maybe.

Top row on belt.
Middle row in pockets or on wrist.
Bottom row EDC rotation; pick one.

Thank goodness for belts.

R7

To start off what do you do? Second you need a tac belt. aka duty belt. You just slid the underliner of velcro under your belt then top it off with the balistic nylon reinforced belt (wont sag) snap the front buckle, (almost like a cargo buckle but more durrable) snap on a few belt stays and head off. You can get all kinds of pouches, and the radio can go in either a stable pouch or a more protective swivel that can come off. Great thing I use one everyday at work. I do security.

BTW, did you see the Gerber Infinity light on sale for $4.99 at SMKW? http://tinyurl.com/3ck72f

The red LED (http://tinyurl.com/33fsaw) is also on sale, and you get free shipping on orders over $10. :D

I can't take all the credit, I picked up the idea over on Candlepower Forums, not sure from who though.
I hadn't seen the deal on those, they will probably go quick at that price.

Speaking of Candlepower Forums, that is where I found out about the Gerber light deal. :)

Deerhunter, whats the tinny knife on your keychain pls.?

I have this tinny (and very sharp) knife on my keychain over twentythree years. I don't remember where buy it. Probably in the tobacco shop in Opatija.

It is veeery leightweight (tinner and littles than, almost invisible between keys), sharp and very useful in smal cuts but isn't very comfortables to use(only with three fingers:-) Follovs few pic. Enjoy!
