Thank you for watching gentlemen.

The SS Victorinox Classic, has a small blade, small file, small screwdriver, small scissors. I think I picked it up in Nuremberg earlier this year, together with the Orange one. Most knife dealers should have it or be able to get it for you.

Thanx Wouter.:cool::cool:

I note that you only have 2 PE in the range. I would agree that the SE on the Ladybugs certainly helps. And the colouring only makes them look sexier :p

I only have those PE versions in rotation because I have to. If they were available in SE, I'd get those instead. The SE really ads punch to the small blade.

What kind of hat is that?

This one?

http://spydercollector.wordpress.com/files/2010/01/coloradoclassics.jpg

It's a vintage cowboy hat, the inside reads:

"Western Outdoor, Kalispell, Mont."

and

"9385 stockman 10x quality"

and finally

"100% imported furs - not other fibers"

While unloading my digicam I found these older pics. With all the new pens arriving at my house they're getting outdated fast. The SF pen and BaliYo have certainly kicked my parker from my EDC into the work bag.

When these finally needed a sharpening, it rekindled my interest in the very nice light and refined designs. They certainly hold their own against the newer models like the ZDP Lum.

The only reason I'm not ordering the blue bone Kopa is that I already have a blue Kopa that I think is even prettier.

Ahhh Wouter :D

I thank you very much for making my eyes water and my mouth salivate. My 2 favourite EDC blades in the one pic :p

I love the similarities between the two folders, yet they are both so different.

Both black
1 upswept blade shape, 1 leaf shape
1 micarta with s/s bolster, 1 almite
1 full flat grind, 1 hollow
1 backlock, 1 linerlock
1 pinned, 1 torx
1 VG10, 1 ZDP189

How can 2 similar sized blades be so different, yet so coveted by so many people :D Love the photos Wouter. Now get a Delica in that picture as well please :)

Thanks Wouter,

The event struck a chord in me when I first experienced it all the way here in Australia 7 years ago. I remember it well because it was a few days after my birthday and the newpapers and videos made it seem like a Hollywood movie. I have many family and friends who have sad tales to tell, and conversely many lucky escapes.

Spyderco did an amazing thing in producing that piece and I am always touched by your own practice of bringing it out every year at this time.

Never forget indeed ! Peace all :)

You have no Kiwi????!! My man, you must have at least one! Considering your preference for Kopas and Persians, the Kiwi is a perfect fit! It has bolsters and similar fit and finish. The CF version is a nice Kiwi, but my favorite one is the SFSW MOP version. Check out NGK's SFSW page, they have Kiwis galore....either that or it's Deacon's personal shopping page.

Nice shots Wouter!

Mr Blonde
11-16-2008, 01:46 PM
My SS Kiwi isn't as pristine as it looks in those pics though. The lighting generally helps to cover up many small scratches and blemishes. However, I gave my SS Kiwi it's annual polish session...that helps to keep it 'clean' too. My SS Kiwi did not come with a pouch, so it did collect plenty of scratches. The next one did come in a pouch that proved to be a great accessory. Since then, I religiously carry all my Kiwis in a pouch.

Good point about the pouch! I am just lazy and bought the SS version to use and abuse. What kind of polish do you use?

Mr Blonde
11-17-2008, 10:12 AM
I use two types of metal polish that you can get in most pharmacies; brass and silver polish. The brass polish is a bit rougher and can actually scratch the flats of H1 blades, silver polish adds a an almost mirror finish to the handle. Don't polish too much or the SS handle will become too smooth; and show more scratches than it 'hides'.

Wouter

rorschach
11-17-2008, 12:21 PM
Cool, thanks! I have both so will give it a shot... and yes I made the mistake of putting a mirror finish on some bolsters once. Talk about a scratch-magnet!

I rotate my Kopas every few months or so. In the summer, I prefer the Turqois Kopa. Fall is for the apple coral Kopa. Winter is for the MOP Kopa and Spring is for the Abalone Kopa. The black micarta Kopa is my go-to suit knife.

I prefer the coral versions for using, as they have a slightly rougher surface. They also takes 'bumps' rather well. Tough to pick a favorite, that one goes to the 'prettiest'. To me that's still the Turqois Kopa. Second place winner is the Abalone Kopa, and the Tiger Coral Kopa comes in on number three.

Love the pictures, your magic continues to grow in strength, and those Kopas sure do look very pretty. I EDC a BMP or CBP one just about every day along with the Persian.

My go-to one for black tie events is the BMP Kopa as well, subdued and elegant as well as colour coordinated to the penguin suits.

Finally, I got the Mule sheath that I really like. Mike Sastre's Generic Mule Team Sheath is top notch. The fit is snug with a crisp release. The fit and finish are perfect and the G-Lok clip is great. I used a simple cordwrap, that Peter Atwood demonstrates on his website. I like the cordwrap, it makes for a very compact package and it carries snug and out of sight. The knife cuts like a small Temperance. The edgeholding is pretty impressive, but I haven't used it much yet.

I think the keys to Wouter's great photography are attention to composition, lighting, post-production techniques/skill, and enjoyment in producing quality photos.

I've had the opportunity to see him in action photographing :spyder:s, and one can observe his focus on producing just the right shots to really show off their attributes.

Hi Chris! Everything OK on your end? Say hi to your lovely wife.

On topic. I consider myself more of a mass-production knife photo guy. I prefer to get the cleanest shots possible with the most realistic colors -at least to me-. There are some real artists around these and other forums. Photoshop helps to sharpen, crop and generally give more 'zing' to a picture.

You raised the bar once again.:)
And BTW I would be honored to share "mirror niche" with you.
As your video shows there is a reason I do not have too many mirror pictures of the knives upside down. Very few models are as balanced as Poliwog and even the slightest air movement is always a problem.

That music absolutely cracked me up...great vid!

Why did you disable comments?

Practical reasons, I don't like monitoring too many discussions. Youtube is strictly a storage facility for me. The embedding feature isn't working in this thread - perhaps it's too long - a bug of sorts. I usually make a video for a review or preview, and then open a thread in general discussion. This was just a video quality test.

I absolutely love my SE C510! I used to go the smartphone route, but never really did like the bulk or to actually read or edit office docs, and the battery would go fast. I decided I needed a netbook for when I really wanted a computer 'on the go'. With the C510 I can get everything out of it, very fast: internet, photos, music, e-mail, movies etc.. Input is not as a fast, no qwerty keyboard. The C510 is nice and pocketable though and it doesn't break the bank. The screen quality is also very nice, but that's the case with most SE screens.

Well, foliage green has the unique property that it can actually change color - at least to us humans. I can put an fg knife on a variety of surfaces and lighting conditions and you would believe it changes color. I've seen it change from grey concrete to brownish wood to green (duh) and to denim.

Apart from that, I always use overcast skies (at a show you probably saw the knife under artificial lights) as my lighting and a wee bit of photoshop to make it 'pop'.

I posted some old pictures of prototypes from 2007. Apart from my crappy photoskills (I didn't yet bring my own gear), two other things stand out. The Samaritan and Bifold prototypes that haven't made it to production yet.

The Samaritan prototype was a double action automatic, it featured a scale release. The button you see, was a safety catch.

http://spydercollector.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/amsterdammeet2007_samaritan.jpg

http://spydercollector.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/amsterdammeet2007_samaritan_closed.jpg

http://spydercollector.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/amsterdammeet2007_samaritan_closed2.jpg

The Bifold is sort of an automatic folding SPOT. The trigger inside the finger hole deploys the handle. Yes, the handle. You grip the blade and deploy the handle via the trigger.

Great looking knives. It is too bad that both of them will be restricted.
Samaritan with 90 mm leaf shape blade looks near perfect. I would love to have manual knife like this, jimping on the choil and near hump and wire clip only will increase my love to this big Caly. I think that I even like this little swedge on Samaritan, which is little unusual for me.

It's actually the Carbon Fibre handled Stretch. It feels like G-10 as it is a rougher scale.

Mr Blonde
03-06-2010, 11:55 AM
It's called peelply carbon fiber, the lighting conditions when I took this shot made the cf pattern almost invisible. It does feel and act like G10, although to me it seems 'tougher'. G10 will get smoother with (pocket)time. This peelply cf hasn't lost its bite, although it has a little less 'bite' than brand new spydie G10.

Nothing yet, actually. I might put it on a Pink Delica or a FG Delica, I haven't decided yet.

I missed out on a sprint run or two, but this time I got lucky and got one early. After playing with my sample for a few days I must say that it´s a really nice piece, even though it´s probably not going to be a hard user in my collection (I prefer smaller folders for EDC). It´s a perfect piece for a photo shoot though. I decided to try the 1024 X 768 format. I just hope the majority of viewers don´t have to scroll to see the full image. Please leave a comment to me know what you think about the larger photo-format.

Hi Roman, I strive to make my onscreen pics look the same as the knives in real life. Light is key of course, as is screen quality, but yes; this is what the Red G10 Persian looks like in daylight under an overcast sky in the Netherlands.:)

Hey Wouter, those are some amazing pictures of the Persian.

The UK Penknife shot is really amazing. I am surprised you aren't in the Calendar.

Those ATR/Lava shots are really outstanding. Fantastic work on those. I can't believe how the lines appear to match up so well.

The new image size is nice. I like larger images. The only problem is that the images don't agree with the forum website too well. Maybe it is just my web browser, maybe someone can post if they are or aren't having the same issues I am. Here is a little rundown of what I see:

The default width of the posts, which are centered, are 800 pixels wide. The 800 pixel wide posts are determining the centering. Your images are 1024 pixels wide, this makes the width of your posts 1062 pixels wide. The width I have to make my browser window to fit your pictures without cutting off or scrolling is 1370. Scrolling is actually a pretty easy alternate to the problems.

Do you mind if I ask which Sprints you missed?

Thanks, I prefer to shoot outdoors during the daytime with an overcast sky. Nothing filters the sun quite like clouds, in my experience. I use a wee bit of photoshop to accentuatesome lines or colors, but I usually aim to make it as close to 'real life' as possible.

I have the same problems with the Spyderco website that you described, my screen resolution can depict the larger pictures fine, but the thread displays it a little awkward.

One sprint that got away from me, that still kind of hurts, is the blue Manix 2. And I'm also starting to regret not going after one of those burgundy micarta baby goddards.

No, maybe I worded that poorly. I had an Orange Manix 2, got a trade offer on it, then checked to see if CS still had them in stock. Ordered a replacement the same time as I made the trade. The trade for the first Manix arrived the same day as the replacement.
