Hi all, I haven't been able to take pics myself, but I recently scored a few Molested Subcom Folders from our very own Potterma....:p
I've been admiring his work on these forums for quite some time now....so I had to get some nice wooden scales for one of my favorite EDC pieces...the venerated Subcom from CLB....
Needless to say, I am more than impressed with Mike's work:
I sent him 2 Subcoms and 1 Wharcom for pimping.....the pivot screws have been reversed for ez access (on the clip side).....the FRN has been removed and replaced by wooden scales that are each about 5-6mm thick....
The wooden scale has been contoured /made thinner where the thumb rests when the biscuit is closed....that way finding the Stud with your thumb is facilitated....also there are carved "grooves" or "jimping" on the wood at the top/bottom and rear of the scale which matches the preexisting jimping of the Subcom's steel handle (the clipside steel "scale")...
I really love the way the thick wood scale makes the subcom "fill my palm" better....much improved comfort and stability when gripping the knife....
Hard to believe that a great knife is made even better with added bling bling!
These are the pics Mike sent me....1st is Bocote, 2nd is Cocobolo, and 3rd is the Wharcom with Desert Ironwood....:D Thanks again Mike, you have truly earned the title of Master Molester....;) :D

hey thanks for looking guys.....the weather's been crappy 'round here, it's actually calling for snow tonite! ....u gotta love the global warming thing...:o I've been plannin to shoot some camcorder pics but poor sunlight...and crappy workschedule...
Yeah, I've been meaning to ask Potterma about Goncalo Alves scales.....My only recollection of this wood is on a S&W Model 41 semiauto 22 cal pistol I learned to shoot on 20 some yrs ago...I believe grips were checkered G.Alves....But I believe it was something u posted Paul recently that's gotten me stirred up to try this "flavor" on a knife....:p

I think Mike will get a kick out of this....:D

Has anyone tried polishing the beadblasted finish off one of those? I'm not sure it could be done but I think they could look quiet sexy. With the blade and other steel polished and the wood handle it would to me seem reminiscent of Fred Perrin's work.
