Anyone see the movie "Gangs of New York"? I know there were no :spyder: in it but I did notice that some of the knives were made from old files. I could see the file markings still left on the blade. Gruesome movie.

I saw the movie, good one, but never could put my hands on what is missing to make it a great movie.

Gangs is one of my favourite movies. Love all the old style knives in it. Love that cleaver Bill carries :eek:

When i start knife making that has been on of my plans to make is a HUGE cleaver like that. So cool!

Bill used the files to cut pigs and stick people with. He was using his steel on them to sharpen them up for use. Look for the blades with x's on them. Those are file teeth that weren't ground off when the knife was made. Files are pretty brittle to use for throwing. They snap and nick easily. I got a couple of huge meat cleavers at a yardsales. I don't know what to do with them? Just curiosities I guess? Not as good as a knife for all around use. Won't cut thru a bone easily. I'd use a saw instead. :)
