I got to thinking after reading STR's Salt 1 thread, but didnt feel right about posting this there...
If one would like to have wooden scales made for a knife, but does not have the experience to do it themself, where can they turn to? Is there anyone who will put some wood scales on a knife at a reasonable price? I am thinking about putting the finishing touches on my native II, which IMO would be a nice wood finish, trouble is i am limited in my experience w/ wood work and dont have the tools required. All i have at this point is a Dremmel that i just picked up and havent had time to practice w/ yet. So is there someone that can help me? I dont want to spend $$$, as i am still in school and dont make much to begin with, but i want my favorite :spyder:'s transformation to be complete. Thanks for reading and for any advise.

I can highly recommend STR's partner Dirk. He's the one who did the scales on my Persian, and he does d*** good work. His pricing is quite reasonable, especially considering what a pain it must have been to fit scales on a knife like the Persian. The Native II would likely be a lot easier, without the bolster to worry about.

What kind of wood were you looking to use? Some types of wood are fairly expensive to obtain. Whatever you choose, make sure it's stablized, or all your efforts will be in vain when the wood warps or cracks.

PM me if you want more info, I just went through the same thing, so most of it's still fresh in my mind.

Fire an email to Vadim Grynko(Vess on bfc, vessleatherworks.com). Think all you need is a dremel or files, sandpaper, epoxy and patience.

I'm still trying to figure out the pin size on my wenger, plan to swap the corkscrew for a phillips before I slap the olivewood on it. It's been a learning experience(like "measure correctly the first time" and "pay attention to placement")
