Hey Gang,
What would you guys say to a Spyderco with an inlay of Tritium that the glowrings have in them?
I don't know about you guys, but it would be nice to be able to see it in the back pack. I never understood why company's make the inside of most back packs with Black. But, I was also thinking that it would be nice to see my knife while camping.
Or perhaps the clips have the tritium in them. And the clips can be sold as accessories?
Better yet, a knife with the "clapper" on it. This way you can Clap open and Clap closed....hehehehe :D
Tell me what you think!!
military used to have tritium, could be nice.. a flashlight is better ;)
not a good idea on the clip as you walk at night, too visible :)
as for the clapper... not a good idea.. knife in your pocket --> clap clap --> knife in your leg :D
some time ago i offered a floating knife, i still think it's a great idea, Sal said it couldn't be done yet with the current materials... i still hope to see happen some day, maybe i'll even build it myself
i was looking at a picture of the :spyder: probe today, seems like one hell of a usefull tool to me, i think it just needs to shorter & it's a winner (just an inch & a half of solid still to continue the handle) great for a rescue/utility knife.. you can use it as a prybar, screw driver, cap lifter, glass breaker, you name it..

Tritium is a gas, so it must be kept in a bottle or vial. Therefore, I think that a clip with tritium inserts would be too bulky. OTOH, I also think that it would add some functionality to a small knife (Ladybug, Jester, even Cricket) which can be attached to your keyring.
But I'm still waiting for that FRN Navigator with a LED microlight incorporated in the handles :)

What is the material they put on gunsights and watches to make them glow? I thought that was tritium.

OoG: that is tritium... it's a gas contained in little vials, easily obtained as a "glowring" keychain.
I got one put in my military in the spacer, looks great.

Maybe easy for you to obtain, but the keychains seem to be illegal here in the states.

I get them from "Bagheera" over on BFC. He can get them easily over in the netherlands, and sells them as a fundraiser for his scout troop. Piet is good for his service, though you may have to wait till he puts an order in.
Could also buy em through one of our forum members over there, but they might not be as cheap.

They may not be illegal here for much longer.I just got 2 of the Nite Glowrings and they are now calling them a emergency saftey marker thus makeing them a tool and legal for import. At least thats what it looks like Traser is going for.
I have one in the back spacer of my Military too and love it.

Why should a keychain be illegal?

I understand that Tritium is not allowed to be used in a novelty item in the USA which, apparently, a keyring is!

Like the idea of a knife with a tritium tube in the backspacer. The way it's done on Jeff's Military would work for me. Do think it would be even better if there were at least a couple "glow ports" on each side as well. Gives the benefit without adding bulk to the knife. The idea of doing it in a clip sounded good, that way one could add it to an existing knife. But, thinking about it more, I wonder if it would make the clip too bulky and, worse yet, would require rigidity (to protect the glass tube) in an item that really needs to be somewhat flexible in order to work.
