Hi all - Much to the dispair of my lovely wife Gaby, I 've become also addicted to Casio G-Shocks. She thinks that I spend way too much on digital time .....
Am I alone????

Aloha my friend!
No, apparently you are not alone in this love for G-Shocks...
When :spyder: was redoing the site, I frequented BF more than usual. I noticed in a LOT of the trades, G-Shocks are often asked for in both the knife AND Gadget forums! LOL! I was like, "Isn't this a watch?!" LOL, it appears to be much more than that to others.
OBTW- That's a BEAUTIFUL Cricket! Hope my wife doesn't see it!
Good to "see" ya my friend, Take care and God bless!

Hi guys - thanks for your reactions! Yeah I love those G-Shocks especially when they come with Atomic time (Wave Septer) and Solar power (Touch Solar) technologies. They make these watches really helpfull. My wife thinks different, but I can't have enough.....

When is your next journey due? Will you think about the magazien then?

Hi Jur, I won't be going back to Japan this year (if I can help it!) but I will sure think of you next time I go to Shibuya. As for comments, you need to enable popups, and then click to register at Typepad.com to leave a comment on my site. I had a problem with spammers and this was a necessary step to eliminate them.
Try it out and let me know if you cannot get it to work!

I Jurphaas,
I'm not as addicted as some. After reading a thread a while back I gave my old timex to my son and picked up a GW-300 the solar atomic G-shock. It's been working great. I just have to check ocassionally that the atomic clock is syncronizing (sp). Since I'm not that close to CO the signal is pretty weak.

Yes, I know about the Casio forum at the "WatchUsee" website. Also one of the two moderators, Sjors, operates a more then fantastic website at: gpeopleland.com (.nl?) He is also from the Netherlands and his web site makes a lot of fun. Go check it out!
Carlos - Was that you who wrote this article.... I've printed it out months ago and then lost it and the site it came from. Thank you for making it known again. I just find the mere veriety of all these G-shocks amazing and facinating. They are also at the forefront of technology with many of the current features they pack into these timepieces. My $ 3500.00 Baume and Mercier Capeland Chronometer does never run as accurate..... so much for overrated quality.

Hello Jur, I think I don't belong here, I'm not much into watches in general (though Luminox made me a good impression, always liked sparkling thingies). ;)
I was wondering what is the "wave septer" and the "tough solar" feature. I believe that "Tough solar" has something to do with a cell that recharges the battery from solar light as for the "wave septer" could it be a radio signal that adjusts the time (like they first did to those Junghans watches more than ten years ago) ?

hey dialex, the tough solar i use is wonderful , it works only with solar cell (in fact all the front dial - except the digital screen - is a solar cell) also it has a feature that light on for 2 secs the the screen when you turn the wrist.. i've found most of my gshocks on ebay, with some very very good deals.. others sources somebody ?

I too have been into G-shock for about 6years I think. Not as a collector, but about every two years I buy a new one. So I am not up-to-date on model number and what not, but for a casual watch there's no substitute for G-Shocks in my book! Come to think of it, maybe it's that time to get a new one! For suit and tie affairs, it's strictly Tissot for me. But hey, once you get into knives you should really get familiarized with other gentlemen's jewellery like watches and pens. The french even have magazine for it. While some of you may be familiar with 'Passion des Couteaux', a glossy high-quality paper magazine with lots of photos, that same publisher has a variation magazine, dedicated to pens and watches I believe.

Hi Alex - Yes, you are rightTough Solar is a solar cell charging the internal battery with power generated from sunlight (daylight or artificial light). Casio states that you never have to change a battery ever again. Now that is cool!
Wave Cepter is what in genral is referred to by the public as "Atomic Time". A signal is sent from an extremely accurate atomic time keeper close to Frankfurt, Germany, Colorado and a place in Japan. The signal reachs abour 2000 km and adjusts the Wave Cepter watches that recieve the signal one or twice a day. Unfortunately Europe and USA/Japan use different frequencies.
Still this technique is very, very exciting and High Tech, so it's cooler then Cool!
Hi Sam - you owe me man!!!!! :D

I have always liked G-Shocks. I wore one for about two years day and night until the protective casing "rotted" and crumbled! I still have it, it is the 901 DW-5300 I can't wear it because the buttons stick out too far and catch on things.
I now have a Drummer Hawk which I was given as a present about five years ago, this is lasting well, but I do take it off now and again!

Hi everybody, just want to let you know that I'm in the gang. I just received from my friend forumite Jur an incredible gift: a Casio (model 2687, to be more specific). It is a wonderful watch, it has everything: the "Tough Solar" and "Waveceptor" feature - and many others, I'm still digging at. ;) I only have it for a couple days, but I got used to it pretty soon - it's an incredibly usefull watch - except for that time recording thing, still can't figure out what's the purpose of it :o Many thanks Jur for this amazing gift. :)

Resurecting this one since I just got my second G-Shock. First one was a G-3011 and after a little over 2 1/2 years it hasn't missed a beat other than needing a battery. Hey Guys - how nice to see this old post being revived again. Many moons have passed since I last posted here.
Time for an update, I think. Well, my interest in G-shocks has never died but it dissapeared more and more into the background. Many things happened over the last three years. Í retired from the military after 36 years. Got on the road for Spyderco and, and, and.
Until just recently, I did with just two remaining EDC watches of which only one is a G-shock and the other one is a Citizen military watch with Solar power. the model 2750 with a blue wristband and face.
Just last month, the Casio 25th Anniversary collection was released and I could not resist to secure me a fantastic G-Schock AWG-525 with the new 5-band multi wave atomic time and solar power. I love this watch.
The best sources for these are: Seiyajapan.com, Higuchi.com and g-shock.jp. Look for the interviews at the website: www.gmtplusnine.com... great reading!
I got most of my g-shocks from Seiya-san who does an outstanding job maintaining his website with japanese watches including many g-shocks.
The next one will be the new 5-band multi wave/ solarpower Gulfman. This is an all digital model and it robs me my sleep since weeks.
Well, this is the state of affairs as of right now. Probably later this Summer I'll get the Gulfman and, and, and.... For now it was getting the custom made Kevin Wilkins Leafstorm and a limited Buck "Duke" with mastodon ivory scales....
See you all here soon!
Jurphaas :)

Hi all
Funny to see how many 'knife people' also tend to be into pens, watches, flashlights, outdoor gear and other assorted gadgets and gizmo's.
(I, by the way, fall in all the above categories...I think it's a medical condition ;-))
Up to a couple of years ago I was the proud owner of a nice steel housed G-Shock, until some local gentlemen forcefully 'relieved' me of it after I stumbled home after a somewhat drunken night on the town. Still miss it. It was the first watch I paid for myself, and I had had it for almost 10 years.
The above resulted in me looking at getting another digital sporty watch for some time.
I never really found something that appealed to me in the same way as my old Casio, untill I came across the digital watches made by Suunto.
Check these babies out, I really love the slick styling on these:
http://www.suunto.com/suunto/main/article_1column.jsp?ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474 395903526&CONTENT%3C%3Ecnt_id=10134198673939780&searchAccessories=false&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474395903551&bmUID=1184079252632
Does anyone here own one? What are your experiences with them?
Best regards,
Ruud

G-7100
http://www.casio.com/resource/images/large/g7100-1v_large.jpg
That's mine! :D
I'm no addict, but when I decided I wanted a watch two years ago I think it was, the first thing I thought of was "G-Shock!" I was a little put off by the $100 price tag (being 14 years old at the time ;)) but I managed to score the G7100 on Ebay for about $50, which was then paid for by my parents as a birthday present, and it has resided on my wrist ever since. Luckily, it appears to be one of the smaller G-Shocks, since I have pencil-thin wrists. :p
If this one dies, gets broken (I don't see either of these happening ;)) or goes missing, I will most definitely buy a new one to replace it.

Had one for three days, a solar/atomic combo: for those three days, I didn't wake up on time, because the alarm isn't loud enough. Switched to an Ironman USB (admittedly, a very crap, poorly-made item) but at least it wakes me up and has lots of alarm/appointment settings.
When i get a new high-end phone that syncs with my Mac, I'll keep it by my bed for alarm tasks and switch to a nice analogue watch again.

I normally wear a Luminox that I've had for about 10 years, but since the sweep hand started moving every 4 seconds, I went back to my G-2900. It's an ok watch, but I don't really use any of the auxiliary features, and the band is cracking after occasional use. Still, I keep eyeballing a DW5600, and it's all I can do to keep from hitting "Add to Cart".

The features on some of them seem a bit irrelevant imo like a phone book? Not to mention any decent watch is made to take crazy levels of shock so they arent tougher by any means, you can do alot better for your money I dont see what the draw is..

I went for years (decades?) without a watch when I started to carry a phone and it had the time. Then my girlfriend reminded me that I need to "accessorize" and a watch would be a good start. So I got an analogue quartz Titanium Seiko, which I love to bits ... but I did then buy the entry-level Casio Wave-Ceptor digital watch for its atomic/radio timekeeping and I wear that a lot now.
Back OT I would love to get a wave-ceptor G-Shock but I find most of them really plasticy-looking and huge, while the displays seem hard to read and cluttered. They're also a lot more expensive over here than in the US so most of the ones I like (eg. aviator style with the analogue faces) are way above my price range.
But I will keep looking/drooling and maybe I'll get one eventually :D

I just picked up a 5600E, no pics yet. I have my eye on the military version http://www.amazon.com/Master-G-Military-Square-Watch/dp/B0055QEAK0/ref=pd_sbs_watch_5

I like mine. I bought a Mudman (don't ask me the model - the band says 3031) since I won't have to worry about anything with this bugger. It's my duty watch, just a tool - a good one, but just a tool.
I really, really like my Citizen EcoDrive. I wear this with my blues.
I previously wore a Stocker and York wind up military watch from the 80's. I wear this with civilian clothing.

Imho, if you are going to get that mil version for use, don't. I bought one about six months ago, and used it for a week. After that it just sits in my shelf..
why; the screen is just too darn dark, even in clear daylight. Cool factor and the looks are fine though... :)

I have one but rarely wear it. I prefer a smaller analog watch.

The Casio G-Shock which replaced my previous wave ceptor, have been enjoying it so far.

Not surprising that people who like Spyderco Knives also like G Shocks

I wear a tough solar at work in the northwest territories and even though I do 2week shifts with no sun in the winter it has never died on me. My only complaint is that the face scratches pretty easy.

After 12 years of faithful service from a Swatch Irony, I decided to retire it last week.
Taking its place is a G-5600E, exactly like the one Scoop posted. It seems like the Endura of watches, tough and functional and dependable. I like it, it has some old school charm.
For dressier occasions I have a Seiko solar diver, but the G-shock is the workhorse for now.

I bought my G shock when I was in the Marines cir 1999. This was during school of infantry. My supposedly "shock proof " Timex bit the dust during training one day. I wore my watch on the inside of my wrist and I had to jump across a small river at one point, latching around a tree on the other side with a bear hug. Timex smacked against the tree and I broke the face of it. I bought a plain jane, fat body G shock the next day an "Illuminator" model and beat the heck out of it. I found it a few years ago and despite the sentimental value, don't wear it. Its redundant these days with me always having my GS3 phone on me.

That G9300 looks nice and big, I like the earthtone G9300ER-5.

What's the hydro mod? I've got the adapters and Maratac Zulu strap on my DW-9052 work watch. Much more comfortable than the flat stock band.
