PM2 Slippy G10

I have three PM2s that I bought at different times over the past 5-10 years. I haven't carried any of them much, for one reason or another. I would like to start carrying them more, but when I got them out I remembered how the G10 scales never seemed to have enough grip for me. I remembered that I was disappointed that texture on the G10 scales on all three of them just seems too fine to be grippy. Seems like the texture should be more coarse. I added some granulate grip tape (skateboard tape) in a couple of strategic spots on one of them where my thumb and middle finger pinch the grip while pressing the compression lock. It feels much better, but I was wondering if there is a better way. Have any of you replaced the scales with something that would be more grippy without being too elaborate?

Thanks

Dear csapp:

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.

I am also a fan of coarse-textured G-10, but most Spyderco customers are not. Most feel it is too abrasive and creates excessive pocket wear, so we usually use medium-textured G-10.

Skateboard (aka "wing walk") tape is one solution, though it is very abrasive. I have also had good experience with cutting decals from rubber tread tape (for stair treads) or the non-slip rubberized tape intended for use in showers and batch tubs. It's grippy, but not overly abrasive. There is also no shortage of aftermarket scales for the Para Military 2, though that's a more expensive route.

Stay safe,

Mike

This is why I prefer the bidirectional FRN or FRCP.
It's WAY better.

There was a forest green g-10 s45vn sprint with diamond arc (?) texture which was very very grippy. Too much for a lot of people.

The new PM2 Salt would probably be a good thing to try.

Before I read this thread, I mistook the title to be a request for a non-locking/slipjoint version of the PM2 in G10.
