Forum Maintenance & Moving

Hey, everyone:
Sometime in the next few weeks, we'll be moving the forum to a new server. This post is just a heads-up that it's coming. Right now, we're in the planning stage to ensure the execution of it is as quick and smooth as possible. I'll post another announcement at least 3 days prior to the move.

As you can imagine, with more than 20 years of history, our forum database is huge (even "huge" feels like an understatement). We've got over 1.7 million posts, more than 87K topics, and over 44K attachments. So, moving it all is going to take some time. I expect that the forum will be down for 1-2 days through the move. While we have it down, we'll also do regular maintenance on the platform.

I know for many of you, our forum is a daily destination. I want to be clear in saying how grateful we are for your dedication, passion, and enthusiasm for Spyderco. Thank you for being part of our community, and thank you for your patience as we work to continue improving the forum!

Kristi

Exciting, Kristi. Not quite like a "knife reveal," but a "forum reveal" is the next best thing.

Down for one to two days? I'm going to have withdrawal symptoms :(

Hope the transfer goes smoothly. Thank you for the heads-up.

I expect that it will be a difficult few days, but plan on soothing my tortured mind by browsing all the knife stores and buying some new knives. It would be easier of some of those new 15V models dropped before the shut down.

They’re moving the forum and all of its data to a new server, not changing forum software. The forum should all be the same after the move, it will just be hosted through a new updated server.

i know. i was just being hopeful. and i don't want a like button to upvote or anything. i just think it would be nice for people to show they like a photo or agree with a sentiment without having to take the time to quote it and say something about it. not a popularity contest thing.

Me too...

I see and respect where Ladybug 93 is coming from, but I personally really hope for NOlikebutton too.

This forum is literally the only social media place I am on - not only "active", I am not even passively watching / following other platforms, never had an instagram or facebook account and so on.

But what I gather when talking to friends: The like button thing is not really desirable on a place like this....
For one I´d fear that there slowly could be a shift to people (perhaps just "unconciously") "shaping" their comments more towards getting likes, and then I think it is better for a good, meaningful discussion IF someone actually has to take the time, effort and thoughts to really reply instead of "just" click a button.

My 2c, and I may be oldschool... ;)

I'm with you. I know it's been requested for years but I can only see it decreasing conversation.
