Post by shane1 »

I currently have:
SpydieChef
Police 4 LW K390 SE
Stretch 2 K390 PE
Manix 2 LW Rex45 PE Stormtrooper
Pacific Salt 2 LC200N SE
Military 2 S30V PE

I want to get 2-3 more through the OpFocus program before the end of the year. Looking at these:

Para Military 2 PM CRU-WEAR Micarta - PlainEdge (C81 MPCW2)
Shaman Black G-10 - PlainEdge (C229GP)
Endela Lightweight Wharncliffe K390 - PlainEdge (C243FPWK390)
Bradley 2 Folder CF - PlainEdge (C134CFP2)
Kapara - PlainEdge (C241 CFP)
Manix 2 XL (C95GP2)
Native Chief Brown G-10 M390 Sprint Run - PlainEdge (C244GPDBN)
Yojimbo 2 G-10 Black - PlainEdge (C85GP2)
Stretch 2 XL Cru-Wear
Any suggestions? Have $900 to spend after discount.

Cruwear micarcta pm2 would be at the top of my list. If, for nothing else cruwear is my favorite non stainless steel. And you dont have a pm2. Everyone should have a pm2 haha. Or the stretch 2xl in cruwear if you prefer the backlock and frn (probablly my preference).

Other than that, you mostly have larger knives listed and in your current owned list. Any reason in partocular? So many times i prefer to carry a small knife even when i can get away with something bigger. Id atleast give a delica or native a look.

I say all this, and really you cant go wrong with whatever you pick. Spyderco doesnt make a bad knife, we all have our own preferences.

Thanks, the Stretch 2 XL I am looking at is G10 and Cru-Wear. I am open to smaller knives, just dont have a lot of experience with them. I like the PM2 idea. Any suggestions for ones not on my list?

Of the ones in your list, I think I'd go with the PM2 CruCarta since you don't have a PM2 yet, and then maybe the K390 Delica since I think that knife is getting discontinued. I'd also consider tossing the Manix 2 Salt LW on that list; even though you have a Manix 2 LW (I also just got a Stormtrooper in the mail yesterday and it is a sweet knife), it might be nice to have a newer Salt in your collection. Shame the PM2 Salt doesn't look like it will hit before the end of the year, or maybe you could have killed 2 birds with one stone on that one...

I will 2nd the Cruwear Micarta PM2. Absolutely love mine, but all on your list are great. Really comes down to What you really want. Again all good choices.

CruWear PM2, CruWear Stretch 2 XL and Manix 2 XL. I can recommend those because I have them. Should have enough left over for a Bradley Folder, which I don't have, but want.

none of those are bad choices. of the ones you listed, i'd definitely recommend a yojimbo. it's a totally different animal from everything you have and it's such a cool knife.

i'd also recommend a stretch 2 xl salt se, which you didn't list. the reason is because h1/h2 with se is a special thing that just begs to be used and i think you'd potentially like it even more than that ffg lc200n pacific salt.

i guess from what's left, maybe the m390 chief is the most different from the rest of what you have already. the bradley folder would be another good option.

enjoy and let us know what you pick!

The Bradley folder, the Native Chief and the S110V Military would be my picks, and would get a maple Chaparral too for a small EDC.
And then the Stretch 2 XL Cru-Wear, if any money left.

PM2 Crucarta, Bradley 2, Native Chief Sprint. All steels that you don't have yet (spydies that is). OpFocus is the best!!

if I were in your shoes I'd go with a Chief and Manix XL first. You obviously like larger knives and those are two of Spydecos best models in that size range.

Chief is slim and carries very easily, like a 4oz Pacific Salt.

Manix XL is bulkier for sure, but has the best grip security of any folder Spyderco makes.

The CruCarta Paramilitary 2 is always a solid choice. I don't carry knives larger than that much so don't have much to say about other larger options.

Looks like you needa try a wharncliffe. Yojimbo is cramped for larger hands tho so I vote Endura wharncliffe

Native chief, stretch 2 xl, and a Chaparral - quite an amazing smaller knife. It appears only raffir noble and lw are available, but they are both good. The lw has better grip while the raffir is more aesthetically pleasing. The chief carries very well, just not quite as easy to deploy as the stretch, but not bad by any means though.

I like backlock knives more, so my choices are somewhat biased.

The Raffir Noble is also nice. I have both. :-)

Of your list: Bradley, Kapara and Stretch 2 XL are my recommendations. You have solid Golden and Seki-made knives already, time to see what the amazing Taichung factory can do! The Stretch 2 I recommend because you need to experience that knife with liners and G10. :)

For 900 bucks you could get more of these than "just" 2 or 3, right?!
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)
