I do not have a picture but on a few occasions
I have seen a single black squirrel here in East Texas.
And on a trip in Washington state saw a number of black squirrels in a park.
They are known as melanistic squirrels.

My cousin was deer hunting on my place and saw a melanistic buck.
She was too stunned by the black buck to shoot at it.

Sorry about the photo but it was taken years ago with a crappy phone in a dimly lit basement and I don’t really feel like cleaning a mount/taking another pic…shot this fox squirrel while bow hunting (deer) one morning because three days in a row he would come down a hickory tree next to me and stop on this one particular limb then proceed to bark at me because I was infringing on his area…fox squirrels are very territorial and this one got on my last nerve…what sucked is after I shot him he ran up the tree and wedged himself in a fork before expiring…so I had to get my climbing gear on to retrieve him…this particular tract of land in middle Ga.(Meriwether co.) had more fox squirrels/acre than I’ve ever seen and multiple color combinations of solid black•grey w/black heads•red w/black heads•white w/black heads…unbelievable squirrel hunting 🐿️

Met a red tailed hawk at the nature center at my local state park. It had lost an eye when young and was rehabilitated by a naturalist there. Very beautiful bird.

Goal for March-April this year is to get out to the lakes and wetlands around us to see more of the waterfowl migrating through.

We need to get a better long-range lens but we saw a pair of Hooded Merganser and a bunch of ring necked ducks today (plus the usual mallards and Canada geese).

Saw this lil dude on a job one chilly morning so I guess he was trying to stay warm and eat the bugs that were attracted to the light…we walked past him a few times carrying gear to the tree before I noticed him 🐸🐸🐸

Saw this little guy at work yesterday and as I got closer to take a pic he crouched down to hide…I snapped a couple quick shots then slowly backed out and he never moved 😉
