Meerkat with poor action

I got in my second HAP40 Meerkat the other day and it has poor closing action. The self-close is non-existent without coaxing the scales shut. The scale slide action is also quite rough. I compared this new one to one I already had and it's night and day. Is there a way to remedy this on my own, perhaps via lubricant?
