Small Useful Collection

AS a retired precision machinist I have an appreciation for nicely designed and made tools. I always carried a small knife, usually a Buck or something similar. After many hours on forums, watching video reviews, and a couple visits to a local shop, I picked up three Spydercos. All are very different and appealing for different reasons.

Don't really have a fave, but the Roadie is an always have with me lightweight. The Chaparral is a perfect razor sharp slicer. The Para 3 is perfect for heavier tasks. Its also a great fidget toy. All have beautiful action and are sooo sharp. Bonus is I can keep all 3 in one pocket when I cannot decide which to carry

Welcome, Bill. I have exactly the same ‘collection’ except I have a PM 2 rather than a Para 3. I think we share the same reasoning.

Welcome bill. Nice collection.
I see you are jumping right in and already changed the clip on the para3. You will fit in just fine around here.

Welcome to the forum, I like the pictures of those knives you posted, very well done, thank you!

Take a look if you want to at the Spyderco Salt line of knives and also the Enduras. Very good ones there, as well.

Hello and welcome.

Great selection!

How do you like the roadie?
I never picked one up because the blade stock is so thick... :/

I quite like the roadie for what it is. Tiny, light. It does what it does. Plastic packaging, tie wraps. envelopes etc. I think the thicker blade make for nicer handling in this form. Also probably necessary to provide enough material the have the round detents on both sides. Any number of small blades will do what this one does, but the roadie is pretty unique.

Tried the PM2 for a day. A bit big for my hand and use. Exchanged for the Para 3.

Great collection! My first three were the PM2, Dragonfly 2, and Myrtle. So yours is probably a bit more rounded than mine was.

Any ideas on the next three? Based on what you have, I think you would really enjoy the lil' native or the native 5. Or perhaps try a Japanese model like the dragonfly 2 or Delica 4 (wharncliffe). Also cannot recommend more that you get at least one with Spyderedge.

If I may make just 1 suggestion.
But, before I do, I just wanna say that you picked out 3 really good Spydies.
My suggestion would be for you to one day get a Military.
As a matter of fact, I would suggest in particular the Knifeworks Dealer Exclusive in CTS-204P. At least while they still have them.
At $179, ( or that's the last price I saw them at ) they are imo, the best knife for money you can get with Spyderco.
Once you get the Millie in hand, you'll be glad you did.
It's like a combination of the Chappy and pm2 you have, in that it's super slicey and can handle big tasks. Just a phenomenal blade.
