PM2 S110V directly from Amazon fake?

#1

Post by andykc »

I purchased a PM2 S110V directly from Amazon. I read up on some of the ways to spot a fake and I'm a bit concerned. The biggest giveaway for me is the barcode. Allegedly, Spyderco barcodes touch the numbers below them, and this does not. Here are some pictures:

The pivot is screwed quite tight. You can snap it open, if you snap hard enough. Gravity is not strong enough to pull the blade all the way down after pressing the compression lock. It starts to move, but doesn't swing. Also, the blade is not centered when closed.

The edges of the G10 are pretty smooth. I was under the impression that a real Spyderco should feel like a hard 90 angle. These are a bit rounded.

Thoughts?

Mine was purchased from BladeHQ and the box label looks identical except for the month code and numbers underneath that date code.
Mine does fall when the lock is pressed firmly and is centered perfectly. Those things could be manufacturing tolerances. The lanyard hole and blade markings look the same too.

Thanks for your replies. I've never owned a Spyderco. I see Spyderco's come with a paper letter. Mine did not. The only paper in the box was a Spyderco pamphlet. Also, the foam inside the box was thin and light goes through it.

I'm basing these comments on the following video: https://youtu.be/gQ5C2H_Vqj0

Put up pics of the G10 at the lock area, and the liners on the underside of the knife, ie where the blade goes when you close the knife.

Some Spydercos come with papers. Some do not. The PM2 does have a very small chamfer to the edges of the G-10, so it's not a sharp 90° shoulder.

Of the Para 2s I've owned or played with, some will swing all the way down, some part way, and still others hardly at all.

I meant the liners on the other side, but no matter, it seems legit.

Looks legit to me, but fakes are getting better and better. An easy way to avoid all this is to stop buying from Amazon and buy from a reputable dealer.

Agreed, it's a lot less stressful to just buy from a reputable source.

Doesn't Spyderco sell directly through Amazon? I know not all Amazon Spyderco knives come directly from Spyderco, but some do.

I think Spyderco does not sell directly through Amazon. We have an advantage in PM2 S110V steel. There are almost no fakes that I've seen on ebay for exemple. This fact is I think because of the higher demand for S30V which has a lot of fakes, clones ecc. But in spite of this fact, the most secure way - amazon or ebay - is to buy from a reputable seller, the most secure is from an AUTHORIZED Spyderco seller where does not matter if he is on ebay or amazon. What matters is the confirmation of Spyderco that the seller buys directly from them

These sure look like fakes. They are advertised as new but obviously have the wrong scale color. Camo in the first and the wrong shade of blue in the second. Seller mentions nothing of a scale change and has failed to respond to my question inquiring about their authenticity and questioning the scale color.

Its bad enough to sell fakes but it really pisses me off when they try to pass them off as real. At least if your going to sell a fake then list it as such.
Your not only selling shady merchandise, your lying about it.

Yes, those are fakes. They are getting better and better. In the blue one, again sharp semi cyrcle near the locking system, weak iron grip plus first screw again placed on the top of the handle and without distance. Again more of S30V are fakes, but if someone finds more S110V fakes then I am more than courious to see them.

hi guys i'm new on forum but i'm an old spydie collector,in the first time that i received my pm2 in s110v in my mind come the same question for the same fact: the number under the barcode don't touch the bar,but my new pm 2 is perfect, the corner of the liner up of the compression lock is rounded and it feel perfect in all the way.
i buy only from reputable dealer and in my country i pay my spydie at full price, but i'm sure, all my knife are genuine.
the pm2 of this friend is ABSOLUTELY NOT A FAKE
the pm2 in the ebay sellers photos is ABSOLUTELY FAKE so also the s110v pm2 are copied like the s30v versions (in this particular cases are an evidence but in same cases are very difficult to understand if it's a fake or not)
but in this case i'm pretty sure that this knife are genuine.
SO DEAR FRIEND DON'T STAY EVIL FOR YOUR NEW KNIFE AND ENJOY IT
BUT FOR YOUR NEXT BUY GO TO REPUTABLE SELLER LIKE.. SORRY NO ADS BUT SERCH ON GOOGLE AN OFFICIAL SPYDERCO DEALER FOR YOUR COUNTRY
BYE

Absolutely! Stopped buying knives from Amazon last year when I got a fake Hungarian Folder. It was a good fake too
