Might we see a Starling 2?

I always liked the Starling, it was a very close clone of the Ladybug in terms of handle design. I liked the blade shape too and preferred it greatly to the Finch. Perhaps my taste was different than the wider market as we have seen a Finch 2 surface. I would love to see the model return, it was a perfect budget keychain knife and in my opinion deserves a return to the lineup. Maybe G-10, maybe FRN- either way I'd buy it.

We could't get the quality from the maker on the model so it was discod.

Hi Araneae,

Between you and me, I really liked the design. I thought it would serve a reasonable market at an affordable price point. An inexpensive Ladybug sized model. The market rejected the model. We could never get the quality out of the maker that we wanted, though I must admit that he's doing a good job on the new Raven2 and Crow2 so I must keep the concept on the table (we have a very large concept table).

We still have the tooling, so let's have the discussion. We believe a significant percentage of the rejection was the quality. So if we were to redesign the model using the existing handle tooling, what to do? First thought is to tighten up the tolerances and go full flat satin blade, no coating. What would you do to make the model better?

I can only speak for my person:
The design is still good and deserves a prolongation; only a better spring quality in the backlock is necessary (I have had two broken springs :o )

Hi Sal,
I would as you said, drop the coating and go to a FFG. Doesn't need much tinkering with if the quality is there. Keychain knives seem to be very popular in colors aside from black, maybe dropping a few variations like orange, pink and blue would help boost sales? As I said, its a very nice LBK worth a second visit.

According to a Shot Show video, this might be a possibility, a G-10 and CTS- BD1 Starling proto came out of Sal's pocket!

As far as i am concerned, just scrap the coating, keep the blade grind and just bring it up to Raven/Crow quality (which IMO is excellent and at least rival their value line counterparts)

That was basically what it appeared to be, no coating, g-10 and cts.

Any models made from the same maker as Raven 2 I'm in! Great quality for price point.
