Optimal hardness for 52100
Re: Optimal hardness for 52100
I won't even pretend to know about heat treating 52100, but I love both a good carbon steel and the Millie so sign me up.

Re: Optimal hardness for 52100
I'm rather disappointed by the new blue G10 for the S110V PM2, or at least the way it looks on the pictures, but it would mean that the Corsair or Navy blue could still be used for this Military!! :DDougC-3 wrote:At this point it seems frivolous to even think about something as insignificant as scale color... still I can't help but wonder :p
I think something murky like gray-green, OD, charcoal, WWII Corsair dark slate blue (no smurf please)... or maybe bright Chinese red
I'm afraid peel-ply carbon fiber would run up the cost too much. And, as for titanium, for me the Walker liner lock is much easier to close left handed than the RIL.

Whoa, how did I miss this!?
Just linked here from a quick browse through the "bombshell" thread! :spyder:
Love my Mule 1, so I'm extremely excited to get some of this in a folder, especially a Military! Really just made my evening!
Here's my good old Mule 1!
...oh and how about some classy understated dark maroon port wine colored G10 for this Military! :D

+1 on the idea for putting out a UKPK in 52100. That would be nice!
Re: Optimal hardness for 52100
There was a poll regarding steel choice for a UKPK sprint, 52100 came out favourite, but nothing further seems to have come of it so far.PM1 wrote:+1 on the idea for putting out a UKPK in 52100. That would be nice!

I believe Sal mentioned that now that they have a supplier for the steel the odds have vastly improved.aesmith wrote:There was a poll regarding steel choice for a UKPK sprint, 52100 came out favourite, but nothing further seems to have come of it so far.PM1 wrote:+1 on the idea for putting out a UKPK in 52100. Re: Optimal hardness for 52100
Is there a date or some way we will be informed when the 52100 military will be for sale and where. I love 52100 all my fixed blades are 52100.
Re: Optimal hardness for 52100
Really, we just have to wait and watch for news in this thread or other threads where the subject has been discussed, or possible new threads where it may be announced. Because of the complexity of producing and marketing of so many different knife models, it's impossible for Spyderco to narrow down predictions until the release date is within a few months. For example, these predictions would have to be based on predicted dates of the arrival of all the materials used, such as blade steel.
Sometimes we don't really know until the knife hits the market or sometimes when a few Collector's Club knives wind up on eBay... but it's all part of the fun and excitement of snagging a new highly desired knife :D They should be available at all the usual dealers unless they are dealer or distributor exclusives, which would be announced ahead of time.

K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod

Re: Optimal hardness for 52100
Why not run it around 65?
Since its low carbide yet high carbon, it can only benefit from extra hardness. Otherwise its basically Super-Blue again, a good carbon steel that's utterly out performed on abrasive material by ZDP-189 or S90V. The Military model is marketed for dirty/abrasive/synthetic stuff, "hard use", and really besides wood and the kitchen, that's mostly what you've going to end up cutting these days.

That's a cool thread, but I don't see any news or updates in that thread.anagarika wrote:Brian,

Brian,
it only says you can pre-order. So I think the production setup has been firmed, now only waiting for the runs. Just kinda wondering if you missed out that thread.

Re: Optimal hardness for 52100
No, I definitely see that. That dealer has put up all of the sprint runs for next year available for pre-order. I was hoping for more than a 12 month range as news.
Generally, the only news that is worth trusting is from Sal or from a dealer.
