Sal, is this even possible? (Caly 3.5 content)
Re: Sal, is this even possible? (Caly 3.5 content)

Sal, thanks for responding. You have made many a fine knife, but none so perfect as the Caly 3.5. The perfect EDC blade, making gent tac and Tac gent at the same time

The ZDP CF 3.5 is still being made correct? That's one of my favorite knives. Hope that's not going anywhere.

This post makes absolute sense to me now that I own a Caly 3.5 Carbon ZDPtwinboysdad wrote:The Caly 3.5 is basically "almost an Endura blade in almost a Delica handle". The PM2's handle footprint dwarfs the C3.5 and for a serious hard use cutter, I am sure the PM2 would be better. But for an EDC in business casual work attire, the wire clipped C3.5 is without equal. The blade to handle ratio is much better on the C3.5 if that matters to you
I spent numerous hours trying to work out which Spyderco model to buy next .
I had a couple of Delica's a Dragonfly a Resilience and a Kiwi 4 .
I have become a Lockback convert since getting those other Spyderco's and so a Lockback was on my requirements list .
Next was the clip , the deep carry wire clip has again converted me and I'm now a fan of the discrete simple wire design .
Handle material was next , I already had FRN , Titanium , G10 so something different like Carbon would be nice .
Blade length was interesting I wanted something longer than a Delica .
Weight was important , not to heavy , in fact the lighter the better .
Blade steel was next , I really like my Delica and DF2 ZDP 189 knives .
The Caly 3.5 was by now at the top of the list .
But the one thing holding me back was the blade shape , I know all the Caly fans will be throwing things at their computers at that statement , but the leaf shape just didn't grab me .
Then not long ago I saw a Caly 3.5 ZDP for auction in not so good condition , I bid low and to my surprise got it .
Right from first seeing it fore sale I knew if I got it I would alter the blade shape to complete my for the time being ultimate Spyderco :)
So here is my Delica 3.5 as I now call it .
This is a Para 2 blade in a Delica sized pocket friendly body .
I know I did a bad thing changing the blade as far as the Caly fans are concerned .
But
I love it .
Maybe future Caly's could have a change of blade shape :)

It looks like a high end Endura.

Nice work Harronek!
The leaf shape has grown on me quite a bit, but at one point I considered a similar mod for my cf Chaparral.

Very nice work, Harronek! But I'd have to have at least two backup 3.5's to change one :) Your result is a very sleek, dressy, great looking gent's knife, but I love the old fashioned, old world look of the Caly's original blade and handle shape even more. The original seems very cosmopolitan and just filled with character to me :p
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

I appreciate the mod, but am a leaf fan. I even started a thread about changing the PM2 to a leaf blade and could barely get out of the way of the rotten tomatoes flying at me! I think the PM2 cult is stronger than the C3.5 cult although I have no idea why...C3.5>PM2 all day long and twice on Sunday!
Here come those maters
