Large Kiwi G10 ETA?

#1

Post by Evil D »

I remember in the Amsterdam thread it was posted as a "concept" but I was curious anyway if there's any news on this knife coming out?

BHQ has had it listed as coming soon. I'm definitely interested in this one.

I am certainly not missing out on a production Kiwi that is readily available. The price on these should be very competitive as well (I would guess).

Hi Folks!

Since I knew about this model I was pretty hooked!
:D But the truth is that it was presented as a prototype, not even a model, so I'm not sure about it being produced, or when.

I really want it to be produced. And I mean really!
For me, this is one of those very rare knives that you would buy 2 o 3 at very instant you see them

I really hope they go with a wire clip on this one.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

These are going to a seki maker I believe. I am guessing somewhere in the $75+ range, but I hope its cheaper. I was kind of hoping it would go to china so it would come out in the $35 range.

I would prefer it to be closer to $75 with VG-10 than $35 with 8Cr13MoV. CTS-BD1 could be a different story though...

Naw, the change to a slipjoint with the Kiwi 3 and the move to China with 8CR13MOV ruined the Kiwi for me. If you have ever compared one the older lock back models with the new one you will know what I'm talking about. The current Chinese made Kiwi is almost impossible to open one handed, and the fit and finish is really lacking in comparison. Now if they build a new larger Kiwi to the same quality levels as the older Kiwi's I'll be all over it.

The kiwi slipit was designed as a two hand opener.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I hope Spyderco keeps it with Seki or Moki. I would love this redesigned Kiwi to have as great F&F as the Caly series. Keep it with VG10 and slap a wire clip on it and I'll definitely pick up 2. ;)

If the regular kiwi is wee, making it a kiwee, then this kiwi will have to be called...

The Manwi. Like manbug.

Or the Kiweigh. Cause it weighs more.

He-Wee. Like skeletors nemesis.

Theres more in there somewhere...

I'd prefer Seki as well. As long as it's less than $100, I'm interested.

I hope it has a clip period. Kept me away from the Air. How long is the new Kiwi, does anyone know?

Here's Wouter's webpage for the large Kiwi:

http://spydercollector.wordpress.com/tag/kiwi-g10/

From his page (plus fixed those silly European comma decimal points ;) ):

"The Kiwi G-10 Concept Model measured as follows:

Blade Length: 7.5 cm / 2.95 inch
Overall Length: 17.1 cm / 6.7 inch"

Maybe he could post the pics to this thread, but I don't just want to grab them and put them up without his permission... Hopefully you are OK with me linking the site address Wouter :) .

Yeah if it doesn't have a lock, clip, and at least VG10 I'd have to pass.

Same here. I think that design fits nicely with a wire clip. It is so close in general to a Caly 3 that Moki should definitely be successful in getting a working prototype done.

No, that's just the black-speckled green G10 sprint.
