Spyders in Pairs

#1

Post by Agent Starling »

Does anyone carry Spyders in pairs? :spyder: :spyder: Like maybe two different Spyders that are complementary or that just go together for some other reason?

(Even for multiple knives carried, I'm thinking of how some of us have certain ones we like to pair up...)

like maybe

-Harpy & Cricket
-Ladybug & Starling
-Yojimbo & Harpy
-Endura & Spot

I find it best to carry two with different blade shapes and sizes. Have also found that, for me, the two most useful are a larger blade with some straight edge and decently convex curved forward section and a smaller wharncliffe. The Stretch and C83 Persian are ideal for the first of those, but the Caly 3, Calypso Jr., Native, and my A.T. Barr One-Eyed-Jack can also fill that role. The second is normally filled by a Kiwi. On occasions, I reverse the roles, and carry an STR customized Atlantic Salt and a Cocobolo Kopa, also modified by Steve to eliminate the clip. I find that combo somewhat less versatile, but it works. Do have a lignum vitae Kiwi in the works to team up with my Stretch, and pair off my stag one with my bone-stag Persian, and my ivory one with the O-E-J.

Well, I just received my first real Spyderco knives (not counting Byrd knives), a PE & SE pair of Delica 4's. So that will be my EDC from now on, until I get more money.

I only pair up when I'm carrying one of my Militaries/SE.

For the NKP factor I always pair up with either my FRN Ladybug/SE or my SS Cricket/SE

Paired Spydies are a recent development for me.

My PE EDC (normally a CalyIII ZDP/CF) is now supplemented with a Ladybug III SE in the watch pocket.

I like to pair SE and PE, or large and small.

Some pairs I like:
Salt I SE & Caly 3 ZDP PE or Stretch PE
Delica 4 CE or SE & Kiwi

Except this thread got jacked. ^_^

On topic: I always carry the only two Spydie's I own. I bought them to compliment each other.

Plain edge Paramilitary in the front right pocket.
Beater 50/50 Delica in my back left pocket. (Wish it was fully serrated, looking for replacement.)
Para-Military - CPM S30V
Delica - VG-10
Tasman Salt - H1

Yes, especially cuz my Blue Spyderhawk PE - a real one - not the Endurahawk! - came today, so I'm over the moon!

I think it'd go good w/my Blue Yojimbo. :)

Agent Starling

PS --> I realize the Endurahawk is a Spyderhawk w/an Endura handle...but it's not the same... :p
