Texas is indeed big. For a European perspective, Texas is about the size of France. There are huge metropolitan areas within Texas, and from the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, or the Houston metro area, it can take over an hour of driving to find a quiet, peaceful place, and then only if one proceeds in the right direction, as major freeway corridors may be heavily developed for amazingly long distances, such as the I-35 corridor from San Antonio northward. Looking at the bright side, the knife laws are very friendly, compared to most states, as are the laws on rifles and shotguns. There is no state income tax! I hope to convince my wife to a move to a more rural area when we are both retired; she is a city girl but does like dogs and horses, and I want to build a shooting bench and a berm for a safe backstop.
