I have no strong feelings about it, but I guess I'd err on the side of nub.

I don't own a Shaman or a Yojumbo, but I have a few knives with nubs I wish were smaller or not there at all -- Mules, P.I.T.S, Sliverax -- but not badly enough to do anything about it. Or maybe I'm just not confident that the result would be better than the original. But all things considered, I'm not a fan of nubs.

I notice the nub occasionally when closing the Watu, but I appreciate the extra safety while using the knife.

It's annoying on the Shaman, but it only took me 4 days of muscle memory to move my finger out of the way lol, not really a big deal.

I could be wrong, but the reviewer seem to be using Pathos to convince others of their argument.

They try to set the narrative that it’s a problem, a useless feature, Spyderco has gotten complaints in the past, and they haven’t changed it, etc.

I’m not convinced. I don’t have a problem with the nub. Each model has different characteristics, i.e., the Shaman and the Hanan. Practice, practice, practice.

Yeah, I noticed it on my first Shaman. I now notice it on my PM2s,.

I don’t care at all. Some people simply have too much time on their hands.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Ugghhh, hate to think of the Shaman, a bad a$$ working knife, built for toughness...referred to as an adult toy. I bet Sal sighs at things like that.

Sigh.

I think most people that have a problem with "the nub" have a knife that comes a little stiff. Whether it needs to be broken in, a drop of oil, a good cleaning, or an adjustment of the pivot, once the action is the way it should be, taking your finger off the lock and letting the blade close is no problem.

I would never grind it off of my knives. It adds a little bit of safety if you have wet or greasy hands.

Also I think most of these Youtube reviewers never really use a knife or get their hands dirty so take what they say with a grain of salt. It is a nice way to see size comparisons or specs, but thats about it.

I see the shaman as a work tool and the Yojumbo as a self defense tool so closing is not of great importance compared to the ability to deploy and use the knife safely. Both knives have a great “Fidget factor” so some of the fidgeters will be displeased. like I said, I have three and deleted one nub and I confess to fidgeting with both my Yojumbo and Shamans frequently. No knife is going to be perfect for everyone and that’s why there is a knife modding cottage industry as well as an army of DIY modders. I will mod the handle of my Yojumbo because my large hands don’t conform to the handle design, but I am not mad about it and enjoy tinkering and modding. I appreciate Sal’s passion for creating some of the best and safest tools out there for pros and average joes.

I use my Watu more than my Shaman, but don’t recall noticing their nubs again after a day or so of ownership.

I might notice cuts or scars on my fore-finger, though.

I actually think of the nub hitting the tip of my finger (or thumb, being a lefty) when closing as tactile feedback, letting me know the compression lock has functioned properly and the blade is ready to fully close. Other than that, I'm ambivalent about the issue itself.

Maybe they should hang an “Adult Toys” sign outside the SFO just so there’s no confusion? :cheap-sunglasses

been carrying my yojumbo the past few days and have been making a point to swing it shut instead of closing my usual way. haven't had any issues.
