Caly 3 Superblue with a well established patina.

Fresh 52100 Military after cutting steak and citrus. It patinas about as easily as Superblue in my experience.

The vibrant colours disappear over time into a more uniform gray.

Early patina on K390 Stretch.

The CPM-M4 Bradley 2 and K390 Endura family are perhaps the easiest to find Spydercos in the current lineup of tool steels that will develop a patina. I would not call these steels "old-fasioned" though. ;)

Thank goodness Spyderco lets us get some knives with a variety of steel.

Does 52100 really patina more than Super Blue? I feel like I look at Super Blue and I can see it patina. I think they said the white steels patina easier than Super Blue.
I have a Calypso Junior that’s a safe queen, so no patina on it.😉

Here’s what 52100 does, though.
If that is after a few days, I would say it patinas as much as super blue, but I'm guessing that's not after a few days.

You're right about how long it took. This is after about a year.

Initially, I found hot rotisserie chicken gave it an instant iridescent blue/green hue, but it's not permanent. As I kept using the knife I found that the patina kept changing. As I'd use it new patina would wipe out, (with streaks,) or cover up older patterns on the blade. Other than something getting stuck on the blade and marking it with a black spot, it's settled into just an overall gray finish.

I do have a Murry Carter Petty made of Super Blue/SUS 410 and the Super Blue on it has transitioned to an overall gray patina also.

Didn't care for the model, but that Super Blue steel was fun to mess around with!
