Karahawk for personal defense?

#1

Post by DutchBlades »

Hello everybody :D

I was thinking of getting a Spyderco Karahawk as a personal defense knife.
It's legal in the Netherlands and I can pick one up for $175.
I like the wave feature and the fact that it has an original finger placement.
Some karambits dont go from your indexfinger to the back of your hand...

Anywho, I was wondering what anyone's thoughts and experiences were on this knife.
Thanks! :spyder:

I think it would make an a great tool if you were planning on picking a knife. An amazing one if you were planning on a kerambit as it seems a great design.

The real question would be the training that would accompany the tool or if another type of tool might be better. That and how well the laws would suit that choice over another. That's a personal/local thing though. :)

Its a great choice for what you're needing it for. That's also a great price. Mine is out for custom scales (still), but I carry a Kbit daily for defensive uses, outside of my firearm. Right now I am packing a Fox 479 XXL, which is another great choice, for a lower price. But my first choice in a folding Kbit is the Karahawk. Just take note, that if this is your first Karambit, you'll definitely want to get training with the knife type, as well as get a trainer.

I've had training with this type of knife in martial arts classes when I was younger.
I have a few others, but all serrated or partially...
Wanted a plain one and a spydie :)
Thanks for the reply!

Sal has mentioned on blade forums that he is/may be working on an updated version of the karahawk. One with g-10 inside the ring for better strength or something like that. Keep it in mind if thats something you would want.

Thanx much for the reviews and great pics.

We met with the maker last week and will begin the changes (G-10 inner and outer ring, polished so as to be smooth in rotation). Then we'll consider a trainer if the demand is there.

Count me as A buyer of both the updated model and trainer.

Man, I hope it will be availible in the Netherlands for a normal price...
Normally I have to pay 3 times the catalogue price here, if they even sell it :(
