All these bright handle colors. So much for a discreet carry knife.

On the bright side, bright colors make knives more sheeple friendly!

Nothing a little black RIT dye can't fix. ;)

$150? O_O I'm new to spydies but that seems much higher than I expected compared to the original model...am I missing something here?

Time and inflation not to mention all the time it takes to revamp it from its original state. A gallon of gas cost more now than it did back then...just saying with time and effort comes change and it just so happens money and improved product are what we see.

Seki made models are always expensive. You can expect it to be around 125$ at CS. Sal always said this one is going to be expensive to make, we all agreed with the high price, but at this price I expect high quality, my last experience with a Seki sprint wasn't good, I am hoping for strict quality control for this one.

If the only objection is the color, there's always RIT. Don't recall anyone mentioning what shade of blue it is, but if it's the typical Spyderco "smurf blue", I might consider dying one to a darker shade of blue myself.

Hey Deacon, how much experience do you have with that stuff, do you think cherry red RIT would work on smurf blue g10?

I would like to thank Sal and Spyderco for making the new Lava sprint, I hope the sales didn't disappoint and I hope this amazing knife goes to regular production again. As for the knife, it is everything I expected from Spyderco, great quality. The only thing I don't like about it, or I should say I absolutely hate about it, is the color of the scales, I always say that bright colors are not for knives, its just like putting blue or yellow on a gun, it would make it look ridiculous, but I guess many other people see it differently. I would definitely like a peel ply carbon fiber version of it.

I am sure you would end up with some sort of dark purple.

Hi TheLock,

We had to pick a color ABB ("Anything But Black") for the sprint. It was more a toss of the coin as it wouldn't be possible to please everyone. Sales are ok. Sprints usually sell out. It was more to serve the requests from customers.

FRN molds are very expensive and it's difficult to make a model that will sell enough to support the cost of the molds. Especially if made in Japan.

Hi Sal,

I am sure I will come up with something to change the color. So, I guess there is no chance to see this knife go to regular production in G10? It is a shame because it seems to impress people more than any other Spyderco I have, actually after I showed it to my friends, two of them ended up buying some, which is surprising because they don't know anything about knives.

Anyways, thanks again Sal. :)

I think the lava is a great knife. The only reason I didn't buy a sprint was the color. Even though I like G10 I would prefer stainless steel like on the original. Is there any chance to bring back the original Lava? Or make a stainless steel sprint run? But I guess those pinned knives don't sell well

Probably won't make another stainless version. It's a very unique design, some really like it.

I've looked at the Lava and been on the fence somewhat regarding it. If budget permits I'll end up with one most likely...but I just now had an idea. A Lava with black Nishijin handles, and a VG-10/D.P.S. 15 Damascus blade. The mostly black contrast would suit the colour of most igneous rocks, and the lighter shimmering bits in the Nishijin glass fiber are also somewhat reminiscent of the shimmering of small crystals in igneous rock that cooled relatively quickly. Also, the waviness of the Damascus pattern is also somewhat similar aesthetically to flowing Lava...that and I think it would look amazing. The cost alone probably wouldn't cause it to sell in large enough quantities to justify producing such an example, but I can dream. I'd have to buy one for sure.

I love the SS version....maybe a nicely contoured Ti version? I joke...because that would be a super expensive knife.
