Finally picked one of these up. Has anyone taken theirs apart? Looks like they finally upgraded the detent ball to ceramic. Makes sense for the Salt (but makes sense for all of them..)

Thanks for the update. Do we have any update or confirmation on this? Can you tell for sure looking at it? I just got my new pm2 salt and LOVE it. I did have a corrosion issue on the detent ball in one of the early production Caribbeans so I was definitely hoping they had switched to ceramic.
I'll take it apart tomorrow if no one has checked yet and replies by then. From what I can tell it sure looks like it though. Definitely don't see the shine of the normal steel detent ball. That picture was in outdoor bright sunlight.

Interesting to note also the stop pin is not coated. The REC avocado exclusives have a black stop pin, so I wonder why this didn't get it. Presumably a steel change to make it more rust resistant meant coating wouldn't work(?).

It's nice Spyderco is rounding the g10 edges now instead of putting flat bevels on it. This and the Military 2 I just got both are that way. Saves me having to do it, and it is certainly a comfort upgrade.

It certainly looks like a gray ceramic ball in that photo.

Detent

Edit: Just a heads up, I've had a lot of comp lock knives from Golden, and all of them have been apart. I've never had to pry the liner off the stop pin before, but this one I did. Could be just mine, could be due to a change, dunno. Anyway, a popsicle stick worked fine, a little on one side, a little on the other, back and forth bit by bit and off it came.

My Para 2 Magnacut showed up a couple weeks ago from my favorite knife retailer in Canada. I was on an email notification for when it was instock. Checking my emails several times a day paid off! The milled handle actually feels great in the hand. I'm liking the Magnacut steel so far. So far it's getting a lot of pocket time. It has joined my growing Para 2 family that includes a first gen PM in D2 steel. I might have picked up a couple other Spydies at the same time :squinting-tongue. I realize I have a minor addiction issue to Spydercos. My favorites are still the PM2, Manix and compression lock models which lead to the Lil Native purchase.

If anyone wants to know, everything is swappable with other models. I tried a blade swap, no issues. I ended up just swapping G10 though so all the internals are together with the original blades.

With three of them apart I was looking around for differences. The stop pin has a little bevel on the edge on this version that my others don't have, and both the stop pin and stepped pivot have a flat groove across on one side that I assume is to use a flat head with if needed to hold in place while screwing from the other end (though I'm not sure why the pivot would need it given the d-hole on that side--maybe there have been warranty issues where the D shape itself stripped?).

Zero problems with a swap into these LynchNW dark abyss Ti scales.

Alright, I've now been carrying and using my fresh black-on-black-murder-at-midnight-in-a-black-hole magnacut PM2 for a solid week.

First impressions out of the box and after a week:
  • Beautifully constructed, perfect action and fitment straight away
  • Wow, this knife is the blackest black pocket knife ever
  • Very sharp, relatively even edge grind, maybe I'll actually use this for a while before sharpening myself
  • Goodness gracious that handle is grippy! This will be a great knife to grab when the conditions are slippery or sketchy
  • The pocket clip grip is a little wild with the recessed scales- so grippy feels like it will tear fabric. But I wouldn't change this, as the retention could be important on a boat/diving/etc.
  • Probably going to snag a long Lynch clip in black, as it looks like it will line up with the small smooth section of the scales
  • I'm surprised I bought a new PM2, as I already have several, but it is my favorite/most carried model and now here we are and I'm not sorry
  • Edge-holding of the steel (my first magnacut :hugging-face ) has been excellent so far, but I can't really say I've near enough experience to judge it - that will take a few sharpenings
  • Did I mention the knife is all-black? And I like it, to my surprise, because the last thing I thought I needed was a new black pocketknife

Noticed that as well. It suffers the same problem the Native Chief LW has that is being talked about in that thread. The clip is too short so that doesn't actually sit in the flat spot so fabric grabs the ridges.

Debating grabbing one of the longer MXG clips mentioned in that thread, but for now I put them on a different knife I don't clip.

I love PM2's, and I'm sure I'd also love your great new black one. I don't love the pocket clip misses. My jeans get shredded enough already.

Ya, I saw that discussion and may go MXG after all. I did take the Lynch "long" clip I have on my Endura off and held it against the scales of the MC-PM2 and it looks like the contact will line up right at the edge of the flat spot. I'll report back once I decide which clip and make the switch.

My jeans get shredded, too, at a rate just a wee bit faster than I wear out the butt riding my bike and sliding around on pavement. I'll report back here if I'm in love with an aftermarket clip fix for this model.

I would think the shallow carry MXG clip from the other thread would work. I wouldn't be thrilled with paying that much for a clip for a new knife though. I know many do it, but I've used stock clips so far.

I can relate to both of that (jeans shredded by knife in pocket and by bike)... ;)

My Jeans are all shredded from carrying and more or less frequently putting my Spydies in and out of the pocket (at some point I always have to have a patch sewn on that shredded part of the pocket) and I´d really not like a clip/handle design that actually accelerates that wear.

I am not planning on getting another PM2 right now, but if I´ll ever do this Salt version would be my choice and the clip thing probably an issue. Same goes for the Chief LW (which I am actually a lot more likely to get than the MC PM2).

So I am glad that there actually IS a longer NON deep carry aftermarket clip that apperantly solves the problem.

/ I also commute and ride from appointment to appointment a lot via bicycle when working (around 5 or 6 hours a week), and yes, jeans-garment does get pretty thin over time in the butt area... :smirk
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I do not have plans to replace the clip on the PM2 Salt. I figure the extra pocket retention is a good thing for the beach or outdoors, so I can live with it.

That shallow MXG ti clip is a drop-in replacement for the OEM spoon clip on the PM2, Manix, Delica, Endura etc. I have one on the Swayback and on a Manix. It was a huge aesthetic improvement for the Swayback, even though it hurt my feelings to pay that much for a clip!
