As far as I know the SpydieChef's lock is designed to be at about 80% from the get-go, pretty much all knives come like that... it's actually astonishing how consistingly they get this dialed in on point, the chamfer line of the lock part almost always alignes with the left edge of the tang.
Mine came exactly like that and hasn't moved a bit since... so no need to worry, your Chef is all good

It's a frame lock also. Not a liner lock

Mine is like that, and has not moved. It is an older model, pre CQI.

Curious what the issue you have with it is, are you expecting the frame lock to go further to the other scale to be under the blade 100%? is it the angle? not sure what the issue is because it looks normal to me, would have to check mine when I get home but I am pretty sure its just like that as is my other frame lock (swayback)
Re: Spyderco SpydieChef CQI - Linerlock quality
Perhaps his concern is regarding the late lockup leaving little room for wear resulting in vertical play developing. Perhaps his already has vertical play: viewtopic.php?t=91994
Re: Spyderco SpydieChef CQI - Linerlock quality
Looks just like mine - pre-CQI Jan 2019 manufacture - and it locks up the same today as it did five years ago.
So long as your Chef's lock-up is secure, I wouldn't expend too much energy nitpicking over the percentages.. use the knife; if the lock ever fails, Spyderco will take care of it.

Checked mine. Looks identical. No blade play either. Glad to hear from those with lots of miles on theirs that it has not moved. Mine is new to me, so only a little experience with it though it has been put through the ringer in a short amount of time.
