That is a great combination!

grabbed this for $25 to compare to the $50 Victorinox chef knives I'm familiar with. It's from cold steel...10" blade.
Took a great edge off the sharpmaker, 15dps going from diamonds to fine. Handle is more comfortable too.
Curious about edge longevity and steel hardness. The Vics are really solid knives all around but their edge stability and edge holding kind of suck. They lose that freshly sharpened bite fast. Hoping this does a bit better.

Hehehehe..... I hear ya SCD!
Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???
Not in my pocket, but just picked these up:
Top knife: The Cold Steel Scalper. I recently posted about trying their 10" chefs knife and enjoying it. Thought this would make a good utility knife for the kitchen. It's stout enough and comes with a belt sheath that I'm going to try pressing it into a bushcraft role too, and seeing how it does vs moras and my SRK's. Expecting the geometry to do well on wood and obviously foods, but doubt edge retention will match SK5. We'll see. Handle is very comfortable, same handle as the chefs knife.
The bottom knife is a beat up SOG Seal Pup Elite. I had a regular seal pup decades ago and had been feeling kind of nostalgic for them. Had been thinking about ordering one at full price, but this one will fit the bill. I'm a big fan of "project knives" so I'm looking forward to tuning the edge and making a sheath.

I like the looks of that Scalper and Tim Wells is a legend in the hunting world…watch Relentless Pursuit if you wanna be entertained…I’ve only just recently gotten interested in fixed blades and they are so simple yet very effective tools…vivi wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 2:17 pmNot in my pocket, but just picked these up:

Benchmade 928 Proxy
Titanium frame lock flipper
Tan G10
CPM 20CV
High flat grind
Blade thickness .15
*added an MXG clip
Warren Osborne’s last collaboration with BM before his passing…it’s a stud of a knife; large, comfortable and slicey for how stout the blade is…my only gripe is the sharpening choil but it is what it is and I got it for a steal

Finally took a break from qubit after over a month straight. The divo mash 2.0 is great, too! Pvd coated Ti, very deep hollow grind.
Both these knives are excellent, and both are fine examples of why I love 14c28n in a pocket knife. Just an outstanding steel when done well.
The qubit has ruined me though. It’s just about perfect in all things. Such a wonderful edc blade! And of the 2, it is still readily available and a steal of a deal for 60-65 bucks on amazon.

Man, that is a gorgeous knife but man, talk about wasted blade length. The choil and the unsharpened section of blade are just staring at me.
I love the Osborne designs - it's too bad we never got a Warren Osborne Spyderco.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

The blade length to edge length ratio isn't that bad. It's basically the same length as an Amalgam:kennethsime wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 11:30 pm

With only a few mm less of sharpened edge:
What absolutely kills it for me, though, is the thickness. It's .035" bte at the heel, .045" at the midpoint and .050" a quarter inch before the tip.
I get that they're going for strength, but my XM24 is basically half as thick behind the edge and I've used that to do all the dumb things you're never supposed to do with knives and never had any problems.
It's a really cool knife, either way.
