Forum problems?

Is it just me or is the forum very slow and keeps going down? I'm having a lot of issues connecting today and every other site seems fine

i'm assuming many people were flooded on the website from instagram and facebook links to view the discontinued knives link.

Website just can't handle the traffic

I had issues getting on as well both hardwired and mobile. It seems okay now. I also tried several Spyderco dealers and all went through fine except KnifeCenter just now.

Pretty sure the same thing happened last year, too when they posted the 2023 disco list. And it also sometimes happens whenever the Reveal catalog debuts. As others have mentioned, it's probably just the site struggling to keep up with all the extra traffic coming from the Instagram & Facebook links.

Hey standy99 & Spyderco forumites,

We did have some technical issues that slowed the site and may have blocked access for some, but we have worked to fix them and things seem to be working normally now. Please contact support@knifecenter.com if you're still experiencing problems with the site. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Last year’s discontinued list was tiny by comparison and it came out on October 24, 2022.

Hey, everyone:
Everything seems to have stabilized now, but yes, once we released the discontinued list on social media (linking to my post), the forum was flooded by people (tens of thousands) wanting to see the full list. The forum is on its own server, but that's a lot of people in a short time. Thank you to everyone for your patience!

Has the forum been getting abnormally high spikes in traffic again? I've noticed difficulty logging on a couple of times, over the past day or two.

I and others have noticed it as well since October 18th when the new Reveal was posted. TazKristi did mention something in that thread:

All this enthusiasm for the Reveal seems to have blown up the forum server.
It's as slow as the Spydie Store on Mule Drop Day!
It was actually the equivalent of a DDoS attack from an overzealous search engine outside the U.S. We've blocked it, so there shouldn't be any more issues.

We blocked that search engine, and another has come along to do the same thing. Usually, these aren't so aggressive. We're adjusting some settings, so hopefully, everything will level out soon.

I think those rogue search engines are still at it.

If you mouse-over a photo attachment, you can see how many times it has been viewed. Yesterday I attached a photo in the "What other is in your pocket" thread, and when I checked today it had already been viewed 1,881 times. No way that many real people check out that thread everyday.
