man they are screaming sharp. Probably one of the reasons it's still my favorite steel out there. I know there's "better" but this stuff is great.
Yes! my favorite too!
I might just have to try some of that Rex stuff cause I love Cruwear and k390 and ORANGE
Definitely my experience with REX45 too
Factory edge almost crumbled on my atoma140 plate, but once resharpened couple of times, the edge crisped up. REX45 is amazing, so is Manix2LW

I have certainly less skills and experience than the two of you when it comes to steels, but incidentally REX 45 is my favorite (PE) steel too!
(Stiff competition lately by 4V (Goddard) though... could end up "beating" even REX 45 for me, not enough experience with 4 V yet to decide).
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

You're on the right path Gernot! 4V just so happens to be my 2nd favorite haha! During my time working down in the warehouse when I would get a lot of my use and do all those comparison threads and sharpening responses both Rex45 and 4V were kings of the all the steels I tried. I'm no longer in the warehouse these day, since around March. Something tells if I was, 15V would probably be right there as well. All I know is Rex45 is a fantastic steel that isn't too difficult to work with, even for someone that's just getting started in the world of sharpening.
15 's in 10 different steels
1 - Bradford Guardian 3 / Vanadis 4E Wharnie
1 - Monterey Bay Knives Slayback Flipper / ZDP 189
1 - CRK Small Sebenza 31/Macassar Ebony Inlays
1 - CRK Large Inkosi Insingo/ Black Micarta Inlays
1 - CRK Small Sebenza 31 Insingo/Magnacut

I think it really speaks for those steels when both a guy who knows a lot more about sharpening and steels than I do (= you ) and me from just my totally unscientific, but coming from a lot of knife use "gut feeling" finds them to be awesome!

Taken early this morning while the coffee was brewing.

Yeah I like them all. I keep them in their SNK sleeves in one of those Spyderco bags in my knife drawer. They get mixed up as I look for other ones to carry. This one hadn't been carried for awhile and ended up on the bottom. So I left all of them out on my big file cabinet. I figure it's time to maybe take a pic of the whole family. We'll see
