Agreed! I have the Manix LW and the Cat in BD1N, no issues whatsoever.

I’ve not tried it. But BD1 in a Squarehead is interesting. Super low angle grind, gets wicked sticky sharp real easy. Fun little knife.

I'd like to see more BD1N. I'd love to see it take over a certain tier as part of a larger budget overhaul.

For years, Spyderco's budget line in 8Cr13Mov has been overpriced and behind the times. Luckily, Sal confirmed that they're exploring options for an upgrade. If they went to something like 9Cr18Mov without a significant price increase, those models could get a lot more competitive in the current market.

The VG-10 models used to be a better deal but are starting to feel similarly overpriced and out of place in the current market. For instance, I love my Rockjumper but $90ish was a hard pill to swallow for VG-10 and FRN. I'd have been happy to pay $100 if it was BD1N.

Not too mention it is very stainless if that is important to you.

The only example of BD1N I have is the Para 3 LW.

I has surpassed my expectations in all areas.

It holds a fantastic edge, very tough, and is darn near stainless in the true sense of the word.

Hmm, y'all are making me rethink my disdain for my Blade GQ Alu model.....
Love the scales but never gave the blade a fair chance due to thinking it was "entry level".

I have that model, and the disdain should be for the pocket shredding properties of the handle! Really, BD1N performs almost as well in Larrin's tests as S30v/S35v and with a touch more stain resistance. And all from an ingot steel. Like a US version of VG10. This steel is a bit of a puzzle for me. The manufacturers charts really make it look like 440B with more nitrogen. Sal seemed to take great exception to that when I made that comparison (sorry Sal, that's what the charts show). It DOES NOT perform like 440B, it performs much better. There's an old video by Big Brown Bear talking about how great it sharpens. I figure Carpenter did some stuff to the chemistry that's not on any of the charts. Short version is it's good stuff

Since the Manix is so ambidextrous it is in LFP everyday and used often. The BD1N is ideal, holds edge fairly well, and easy to get it back to blazing sharp in the field.
Initially I was a bit leary of it but shortly got over that and enjoy it more every time I take one minute for a tune up.

I do carry one or 2 also with much more wear resistant steels but would not head out without my BD1N Manix. Probably gonna grab a LW Para 3 BD1N to throw in the mix.
