Which Byrds are BD1N?
Which Byrds are BD1N?
Does anyone know which Byrds have gone to BD1N?
Is the plan to switch all of them over?
I was looking at some of the ti models. Are those still 8cr13mov?

Are there plans to move in that direction? Or is BD1N going to be for USA models?
In my (so far pretty limited) experience, BD1N is a huge upgrade from BD1.

Hi Tom,
BD1N in China will depend more on Carpenter and whether or not they choose to stock it in China. Right now the one Chinese maker that we have that has the equipment to heat tread BD1, says that at this time, he can only get BD1 and it's very expensive.

If it comes to pass, I'm sure we'll announce it, but it's not looking good.

Re: Which Byrds are BD1N?
It would be interesting if byrd production could come here, on the “wings” of already-available-here BDN1. That would instantly turn the budget knife market on its head.
Re: Which Byrds are BD1N?
Hi Deckeda,
the Chinese Yuan is 6 to 1 to the US dollar. The cost of making a byrd in the us would cost 6 times as much as in China. No longer a budget knife at that price.

Re: Which Byrds are BD1N?
Yes I understand that aspect. What I didn't realize was that China can't get the newer steel competitively. When I'd read earlier (elsewhere?) that BD1 was being phased out, I thought that meant wherever it's being used.
Re: Which Byrds are BD1N?
We're still waiting to hear if it will be available. We have one maker that can process proper heat treating as he's invested in the equipment.

Re: Which Byrds are BD1N?
sal, would a Byrd Cara Cara 2 with BD1N blade be extremely more corrosion resistant than the current stainless steel used on the Cara Cara 2's, or not that much better to make it worth the cost of production?
