The collaboration I want so bad

Post by endgame »

I need to see spyderco do a collaboration with rick hinderer.besides spyderco the xm line and fxms are by far my favorite knives.the build quality is top notch.you can get one now for first responders price.I would love a collaboration featuring the spanto grind in hl steel. with the compression lock and like he did with his new collaboration with zt have his aftermarket ti hardware fit .spyderco has done this with so many other lnife makers I hope they try rick one day.he is a **** of a knife maker and the xm is a **** of a knife.how about you give rick a call and go out for drinks sal on me.lol any one else feel this way.

I'd be interested for sure!
After seeing the Lionsteel colabs, a Hinderer colab felt pretty close :p
It is however a very pricy endeavor, so there has to be quite the group of people willing to buy the model if there will ever be one.
I'm sure it'll attract plenty of fans, but it'll have a heavy pricetag... So actual sale numbers might be an issue.

I'd buy a collab if it was a flipper for sure, something similar to, but not copying, the other Hinderer collabs out there based off the XM

My guess is that it will not happen because it would put Spyderco in direct competition with Kershaw/ZT. Also, it would look a little like Spyderco trying to be a copycat, which they are not prone to do. Finally, I don't think that Rick would want to simultaneously collaborate with two different companies--correct me if I'm wrong, as I could have overlooked some other collaboration with a different brand.

I think I'd rather see the time get devoted to more in-house designs and production.

Not knocking the Hinderer, but if that's what you like, then just get a Hinderer.

He also does one of the TDI knives for Kabar if I remember correctly. A design collab with Spyderco would certainly be interesting but I think at the moment Rick's designs don't really match with what Spyderco are doing, he's more into the "overbuilt" concept that KAI specialise in.

Maybe it will happen in the future but until then I want to see more Spyderco collab's with Sal and Eric :D

I'd MUCH rather see a Strider collab than probably any other at the moment. Just give me a SMF in 3V with a round thumb hole and I'd buy one. A steel lock face insert wouldn't hurt either.

Rick Hinderer is part of the KAI/ZT team. I wouldnt be surprised if he was under some sort of exclusivity contract also. Rick walks around SHOT and BLADE in a ZT shirt. I do not see it happening.

His style of flipper framelocks doesnt mesh with Spyderco at all anyway imo.

I have never seen a Hinderer that looked like it was worth what it was selling for. I'm not sure I'd buy a Spyderco/Hinderer collab.

If Spyderco ever did a collab with Strider, I feel that they would have to work out the wear/weak non lock side problem in the design. Isn't the great thing about Striders the warranty? Even if you are gambling on how a warranty return will turn out.

Now that CRKT has discontinued the Razel by Graham, I hope to see Spyderco revisit the idea of a Razel colab with Graham. Unless of course the current mid tech is in the way of it. That mid tech just doesn't do it for me, especially with it's current price tag : (

I just want more spyderco flippers, smooth flippers with 3.5"+ blades! I don't care who the designer is. How about that supposed manix flipper, that's what I'm waiting on.

I'm not against a Hinderer collab per se, but it doesn't seem likely or even possible. With the amount of collaboration work Mr Hinderer does with KAI, I doubt collaboration models with other manufacturers are likely.

I'd rather Spyderco focus on continuing to do collaboration models with either highly exclusive makers like Brad Southard or Peter Carey, or bring makers who are a bit off the beaten path (Marcin Slysz) to our attention.

An XM-18 seems too obvious to me. As with many things, this is just my opinion.

A hinderer collaboration with Spyderco would probably cost between $300 and $400 on the street. I can't see these two coming together and not talking about something that would push the limits of what can be accomplished.
It would be highly, highly collectable no matter what they might come up with.

Endgame, is your point to sell Hinderer knives or to ask for a collaboration? If it's just asking for the collaboration then you've done that. Most people on this forum have already formed an opinion on what constitutes a good knife and RHK knives either fits their ideas or not. In my experience some spyderco models at least rival the fit and finish of RHK knives while being far more usable and safer, with better steels that suit my purposes better, have locks that are better, with better pivot actions, and cut very well while being thick enough to do whatever you may realistically need to do with a knife.

Sal and co. do a very, very good job on giving important information out and don't behind some BS smokescreen. They ask for and take honest, constructive criticism with an open mind and try to make their products better each and every time. They also don't force things on people. If there is a large demand for certain changes to be made, they don't shutter the discussions and act like it's not happening. They don't take their customers for granted. It seems like each and every individual customer is necessary and important for the company's continued existence because they actually are. Sal recognizes that and is loyal to his customers and people return the notion.

I hope that Eric Glesser starts becoming more active with the forums like Sal is. I can only assume that at some point he'll take the reigns and i truly hope he remains as engaged as Sal is.

Having said all that, RHK knives are built to specific standards and the standards are pretty high. But the knives and the company as a whole are not for me.

I'm missing the part where owning one has anything at all to do with a collaboration, since Spyderco would be manufacturing the knife, how does the quality of an actual Hinderer have anything to do with it? Besides it can be the best built knife in the history of mankind but if people don't like the style and can't see how it would work with Spyderco's style then there won't be enough interest to bother with it. Besides if the XM is God's gift to folders, how can Spyderco improve on it beyond just adding a hole in the blade?
