Help!!!! Tuff lock failure

#1

Post by clevelanddean »

Any advice. My tuff has lock failure now. I use it regularly for wood working. Dropped it about 2 feet and it failed. Now I do a light spine wack and it is failing every time. Need some guidance other than just sending it in, which I will do if I have to. It is my favorite knife right now knocking everything out of. My pocket hard so I really want to get it back on point.

Thanks.

Send it in. It's the only answer.

I'd also send it in. Is yours one of the early ones with the super stiff lockbar (You basically won't be able to disengage it without fairly decent calluses and it still hurts), or is yours one of the later ones with more normal lockbar strength?

Early. It was stiff when I got it. Took a lot of opening and closing to get it where it is now. Labor of love.

Send it in. I had one with the same issue. Sent it in and received a replacement a couple of weeks later.

When you open the knife how much of the bar engages the tang?

I'm still at the about 40% it came with.

Is there any deformation or damage to the lock bar face or the blade tang, is there any play in the blade?

I'd also send it in. The W & R department will sort through it and will take good care of you.

Hi Dean,

Sorry for your frustration. It seems something has happened at the interface. Nothing you can do to fix it. Sorry but you'll need to send it in. Charlynn will take good care of you.

Thank you Sal. I will send it in soon. Not really frustration. The tuff is just my baby. Got it about 2 months ago and it and my caly 3 damascus have knocked my other 60 knives out of consideration for carrying (please make a caly 3.5 damascus w/carbon fiber sprint run, that would be the ultimate hands down gentleman folder).

Side note. Yet another reason why Spyderco has become my favorite production company. Anytime the boss takes the time out to personally message an issue in a forum tells me that the owner as well as the company adheres to a heightened degree of honor. Bought my first spydie about a year ago, since then I have bought 9 more and have a lengthy wish list. Ya got a customer for life.
