I volunteer myself to do it.

Not sure what it is about that knife. After the Tighe Stick which I am far from into, it seems strange that an unconventional shape like the Vrango would speak to me. But it does. Loudly.

And I have to wonder if serrating the recurve portion would work. Would it give us the serrated Captain that we all (or at least JD and I) desire? Where is JD, he needs to see this.

IG,
Thank you.
The good news that it is still there, not so good news that it is still long way to production. I thought that we will see the knife in 2015

I hope we see the GB2 this year! That is the only one I'm definitely buying.

It seems it doesn't need the chisel grind though since when closed it is covered with the wider ridge underneath... just my opinion. Maybe the Darriel has other reasons.
^ this
I'd love a credit card type of knife w/out the chisel grind

I wonder if Sal and Eric have a massive collection of prototypes they've tested and carried.
- best wishes, Jazz.

So far, from my viewpoint:
GB 2 very appealing with the switch from choil to Delica-like hand guard, though I have usually favored choils.
Pachenco Dog Tag looks like a very light easy-to-carry design.
Squarehead could be a better design, but I like the looks and lightness of the Dog Tag.
Ion and Nirvana very good designs and very desirable; a little rich for my blood at the moment.
Really like the Ti Squeak, but not on my radar right now (Just bought G-10 Squeak and much like it).
The Lil Lum is about my speed and may be the one that helps me decide which Lum to buy. It would be nice in Nishijin.

Lil' Temp 2 -- I missed out on the original Lil Temp and therefore never had a chance to fall in love with the contoured G-10 like everybody seems to have done. So this may be the one for me. It looks like a baby from a cross between a Superleaf and a Lil' Temp, which didn't inherit it's daddy's choil :)

Several of the striking, unconventional custom-like designs might "fill a much needed gap" in my collection ;) ;) :D
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

I've often wondered what happens to these. If everybody thought like me they would be the most highly prized collector items. My guess would be what you say, maybe with some given to close friends and associates.

Were any knives not pictured here, but shown at the meet, scheduled for release this year?

No release dates were ever discussed on any model, shown or not.

Good job Spyderco, I see a lot of great designs! I am not a huge fan of titanium scales but the knives look awesome!`

Well, if I remember it correctly, Henningsson sent in a much more plain finished concept model but he is apparently known for his more 'glossy' finished knives. This finish with the blue and cf would be a better representation of the maker.

Spyderco 2015 Production Prototype – Phil Wilson Sprig

#459

Post by Mr Blonde »

I’m afraid I didn’t catch much background information on the Sprig, as I was busy shooting all the incoming knives at this point during the meet. IIRC this sample looked a bit used, as it was the prototype that was also tested by Phil Wilson and he apparently really tested it properly. I recall the knife handling very light and comfortable. I already own the Southfork, but if I could choose between that and the Sprig. I’d probably go for the Sprig as it would be a better match with my uses, for foodprep, picknicks etc… during camping trips.

I had to attend an evening meeting at work, and just got home to process and post the Sprig. It's all I can do tonight, sorry guys. There's more to come tomorrow.
