Dragonfly2 edge in a video

#663

Post by jackknifeh »

Just polished the bevel on my SB dragonfly. I had forced a patina on the blade so the only area not patina'd was the edge apex from any touch ups I have done. So now I polished the bevel. I want to add that I didn't set a goal of sharpening the edge. What I'm finding is that when putting a single bevel on a knife free hand my angle control is inconsistent enough to hit the apex enough times when polishing to sharpen it. Anyway, I put a video of showing the edge on photobucket. Here it is.

Thanks MR. I obtained the sharpness by working on polishing the bevel free hand. I used only stones (no strops). I was not trying to sharpen the edge. That happens by accident. Unless we count on the inaccuracy of our stroking free hand. If we count on it we can call it intentional. By calling it intentional we can claim a higher skill level. :) When in fact it's our lack of skill that does the good job. :D I just started a thread pertaining to this issue in the off-topic forum. I'd love to get your thoughts on this as well as anyone else.

And the latest. Had to show this because it has the thinnest tip I have ever encountered. And it is also very sharp. Everything I hoped for from a Spyderco and the Taichung factory.

Superblue Stretch: Slightly thinned-out the primary grind some more, so I lost all my patina! :o Fresh 15 deg SM diamond micro bevel.

I thinned-out the primary grind of the M4 Military some time ago, but I have not posted a pic yet. As shown below, it was really too thick behind the edge. Here it was already reprofiled on the EP to about 25 deg incl, but resulted in a very wide bevel:

After:

Much better now, does not crack open crisp apples anymore, just glides through them. :D

Hello fellas,

I'd like to show my latest acquisition and my first endeavour into the realm of the Spyderco!
I recently received a gift from my very dear friends and fiancé (SWMBO) for my birthday which was a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 with brown G10 scales and the very nice CPM S35VN steel. Until then I had not a lot of experience with folders because in Germany you are not allowed to carry folding knives. That's why I settled for fixed blades. The Spydrcos however always had a certain attraction but I was unsure. But **** are those knives nice!
The brown G10 scales seem sturdy and really nice with an extremely ergonomic feeling. This knife obviously is designed to be used not just looked at.

Let me show you:
