Holland wrote:nice little write up as well. The part where you say the chaparral 3 might become a more sought after knife in the future. Do you think spyderco would discontinue the chaparral 3 for lack of sales when it is in a series?
Judging from history, I think this knife will not be the greatest seller and it's tough to bring a lot of these to market as well (Sal mentioned they could only make about 10 a day). And lack of sales has been the no 1 reason to discontinue a knife in the line-up. Despite all the criticism about the price regaring the country of origin now, I have a hunch that this will become something of a grail knife for collectors.

My trusty Spyderco Homemaker in action, to creat some garnishing for a cake. Don't worry, I didn't bake, I just did the cutting. ;)

The Chaparral 3 is a pretty extreme edition. I am figuring that the sales numbers will tell if the future models will go expensive and really fancy or if they will go less expensive and a little fancy.

I thought that it was borderline too expensive, but it went on a bit of a sale and I jumped on one.

It's really neat how the light catches all the corners. I made a video trying to show it.

Beautiful pictures Wouter. I really wasn't too crazy about this variant of Lum Tanto fixed blade and passed. But on your pictures it looks very tempting to get. You are doing this again to me :)
Wooden sheath looks great. Which out all three variants of Lum Tanto do you love the most? Least? Can you recall from Amsterdam meet, if G10 on current run polished or peel-ply?

Thank you! that's not a wooden sheath though, just my old wooden practice tanto. From the a'dam meet I recall the g10 handle being a sanded G-10 it was a smooth finish. But it definitely wasn't something like the high gloss on the Des Horn handle.

Vintage Al Mar Bowie & Spyderco Sage 4

#630

Post by Mr Blonde »

This fall, I scored a vintage Al Mar model 4009 Commemorative Presidential Bowie knife. I had been pining for this knife since I first got into knives in the early 90s. Now, after more than twenty years, this very same knife is mine!

With its 12 inch blade, this beast dwarfs the Spyderco Sage 4

Thank you guys. I will admit my wife is a bit unnerved that I handle and twirl this knife on the couch in the evening while watching TV (after the kids are tucked in). Hey, I do this with every new knife, but I will admit that this knife is a just a wee bit bigger. :p

Wow. Very nice story! I'm so happy she's finally yours after 22 years! The date on the knife July 20,1989, I would be a high school Senior that fall, 25 years ago.....I'm truly happy it all worked out :)

Holy cow Wouter, there are some stunning looking fixed blades on this page! Your Lum pics have pushed that beauty to the top of my holiday wish list! Keep the pics coming and watch out swinging that sword of yours around :) ;) That's a really wonderful story about your journey to make it your own on your website. Cheers, Radioactive :)

I hesitated about the clip at first, but it is much more ergonomic than I initially thought.
